I can't decide what the best Rolex is to buy

I have been researching and am not sure which Rolex is the best option for me. the Yachtmaster or a Submariner. I am thinking of a two tone, but can't decide that vs. a Stainless. Any suggestions on major difference or advice?

How can we know if you don't?

You should buy what you like, not what others like.

Good luck.

As Andrew said, flip a coin, because you WILL wind up getting the other one(s) at some point. Me, my first one was a sub and couldn't have been happier

You need to go to an AD and try them on. Then you'll find yourself really confused...

The Yachtmaster as the name implies is for yachtsmen and it has a bi-directional bezel for counting down the time to when a race begins. I'm not a yachtsman, so that's all I know about that.

Even the SS model has a platinum bezel and a platinum dial, which I guess is because people who own yachts can afford very expensive watches and like to stand out from the diving crowd.

The Yachtmaster has a depth rating of 100 meters versus the 300 meters of the Submariners

Metals and colors are strictly a matter of taste.

The Submariners are for diving. They have a trip-lock system for the crown to make them more water-resistant. They have unidirectional bezels to prevent tragic consequences if the bezel is accidentally moved during an ascent, thus helping to avoid the bends.

I am not a diver, so that about what I know.

I do know that a divers' watch or a Yachtmaster with their rotating bezels are very useful for almost anyone, whether they dive, race yachts or not.

Used as tool watches they have very different applications.

For those who simply want to own a very nice looking watch with the added feature of a lapsed-time bezel, either will do.

Try both on and go with the one that you like best. I personally would selct the sub over the yachtmaster, but that is just my opinion.

Get off of the Forum imediately after you make up your mind because I promise you with 65000 TRF witnesses. You will only want another one if you continue to surf the forums. If you cant leave than just plan on buying 2 or 3. By the way the TT sub C rocks. But I cant decide if I like the blue or the black one better.

This is a totally subjective decision. Some watches are slightly dressier and others sportier, but they are all essentially interchangeable. Try on a few watches and buy the one that gives you the biggest smile.

Try them on and see what you like.

I've had the (women's) Yachtmaster for almost 11 years and love it as much as when I first got it. The bezel comes in handy, but of course the Sub's bezel is helpful, too.

You need to see a watch on your wrist to see how the colors would look, proportions, etc.

Have fun shopping!

I have all three of the ones you are deciding, Plat/ss YM, SS SubC & TT Blue SubC. Its quite hard to say which is my favorite as they are each unique and beautiful in their own way. If you like gold go for the TT blue subc, all purpose and all occasion wear then go for the SS SubC, want to be a little more uncommon then go for the Plat/SS YM.

The easiest choice is to get all, one after the other :D

Welcome to TRF.

Try them on and check them out at an AD nearest you. Hopefully this will help you decide which one or ones work best for you.

Welcome to TRF. GMT-IIC, Subc, Deepsea, Explorer are among the watches you may like. If you have a higher budget and like more dressy watches then try the Day-Date and Day-Date II.

You need to think about what you wear accesseries, rings, bracelets, etc.....are they gold, silver, TT.

Then think about the flash factor do you want everyone to see and notice your watch, a Sub TT does this, or prefer something more "stealthy" like the Sub

Lastly, if you like to have something that is more rare to see in the wild, pick the YM

Obviously you will have to try each of them on to really get an understanding of what YOU like more, but here is my take on the watches you've suggested.

My biggest question for someone considering these 2 watches is, do you dive?

Unless you dive, the Submariner and YachtMaster are very similar regardless of what people say. In short, the YachtMaster is a dressed up Submariner, without the 300 meter depth certification and with a bi-directional bezel.

I'd say that the Submarier is a little more rugged and casual, and the YachtMaster is a little dressier/flashier and a lot less common.

In my personal case, I don't dive. So I leaned towards the YachtMaster because I found it to be the better looking watch, especially when I compared them in person. I wear mine everyday weather I'm in a suit, or if I'm kicking around in jeans, a tee shirt and running sneakers.

Either choice is great and will probably outlast you! :)

Try before you buy!

1. Go to a local AD or watch broker
2. Try on each option and take a pic
3. Reivew the pics at home/laptop/iPhone
4. Try on each option again
5. Repeat as many times as necessary until you find 'THE ONE' you must have

Good luck!!

I purchased a green sub and put a deposit on a rose yachtmaster TT in the same day. This is a dangerous place.

Go for a ss sub if you want to be safe and it goes with anything that you wear.
