Help / Advice for Newbie Please

First of all, Hello everybody. I`m Dave, aged 42 from UK

I`m a new member + looking to purchase my first Rolex some time very soon. Great forum, there`s obviously a wealth of knowledge on here + by the looks of it, some beautiful watches too

I`m looking at a pre owned Submariner for my first purchase + have been browsing through the classifieds on here, as well as various online traders + Chrono24. How important do you think it is to have box + papers ? Is it not vital if I know the seller is trusted ? Does it make a big difference on resale value ?

Your help / advice would be much appreciated

Welcome
Good choice for a Sub.

Box + Papers will always add value to a watch.
And when you buy it will also cost you more.

The replica market has exploded with these models. if you want a legit piece, go to an authorized dealer. your exchange rate might grant you a discount if you buy it in the states.

For me when buying from a reliable sourse the box papers would only be important if they had any warranty period left.If warranty has expired thats all it is a bit of paper, myself buy the seller and condition of watch.Bits of outdated paper and packaging boxes are secondary and myself would not pay extra with or without. Now when buying used if watch is over say 5 years old and no history. Then it would wise to budget a service after service you will get Rolex service papers, with a full two year current warranty and with all the details of the watch on the Rolex paper.

Box and papers will add authenticity to a resale. Don't need them if you plan on keeping the watch and you buy from a trusted seller. The papers are useless after warranty is up, so aside from resale and the completeness factor, you'd save some money going the trusted seller pre owned route with no box or papers.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to TRF - you've come to the right place.
Box and papers are nice but the watch itself is and must be the focus of your purchasing choice, not so much the box and papers.

Chaps on here are always going on about; "Buy the seller"

Use this forum to thoroughly research the model of your choice and get clued up. You'll then have the knowledge and know-how to make the all important purchase decision.
You'll make some great friends in the process and have a right laugh. We're all nuts about Rolex and watches in general.

Welcome mate.

Welcome to TRF buy the seller first, NOT the watch and you will never have a problem. Remember, Rolex makes 100,000's of watches each year, there is no reason to buy, in a rush, or on a quick whim

Every sales guy will tell you that 8 guys are looking at a given watch and you'd better act quickly

Welcome to TRF Dave!
And as others already said buy the seller is the key, Have a look around the FS section right here on TRF and make a good deal with one of our many trusted sellers.

Everyone has their opinion on B&P. Myself, I prefer them.

Nonetheless, look at the trusted sellers here on TRF and get a 16610!!!
