Thinking about going back to just one watch.
This is some cyclical drama that I propel upon myself. Back in the summer, I declared that I was going to wear one watch for one year. That idea quickly fell apart and while I still have the original focus of the "one watch" notion (my SD 16600), I've had 3 others since then and currently rotating 3 watches. I can't quite lock into one for a long time, but after a few weeks/months of owning multiple watches I grow weary of the rotation!
I've been mostly swapping back and forth between a vintage 1680 and a modern 16600 with a very recent addition of a 16570. I've now created a monster where I feel like there is too much variety in a bad way! Hard for me to describe this, but the more I think about it, the more I just want to pick one of them and wear it all the time. Am I going crazy? |

If you were the type of person that only wore one watch you wouldn't have bought more than one. It will drive you nuts trying to go back to one. I often think about having one too but also know I'm a WIS and that will never work. Keep your collection and rotate as you feel fit. Don't sweat it that you like variety. That's what I do.

As long as you're having fun and being financially responsible, I say continue with your craziness. Perhaps a lot of the enjoyment you get from your watches is in the pursuit of the next 'gotta have it' timepiece.
But then again, perhaps you're just OCD like the rest of us. |

That is something that I think about often. Just don't know if I could though.

I keep wanting to go to 3 watches. I plan to have a 20 watch cull in the spring. Of course I'm keeping all the rolexes

Good idea OP.
A servant cannot serve two masters (or 6 or more for that matter) Had loads of watches over the years - they've all gone and only the Sub ND remains. It's my fourth favourite thing on Earth - after my Kid, my Dog and our House. |

I hear you....No matter what, I always seem to come back to just two watches.....
One is not enough as I like a change once and a while and three or more make me feel a little gluttonous... |

Same for me, only the SUB (except one cheap Maurice Lacroix I recently add)

I was in your shoes earlier in the year. Always considered myself a one "good watch" guy and eventually took my Rolex count to 3!
Selling one off was easy, it never really sang to me! Then sold the other two and got myself a new subc. For me, I couldn't be happier!! To each his own though!! Jimbones |

I think about the same too, but I wouldn't be able to choose between the two I have!
For the last year I've had two and it is a sweet spot. When I had three, I felt it was too much for me. |

I don't rotate through the dozen or so watches that I have anymore and just rotate through the Rolex watches, of which there will be three.
I don't impose a regular schedule. I just change when the notion strikes me and I feel like going to the bank. This method works out well for me. One watch would be fine for me, but I enjoy the variety and each watch pleases me with different characteristics.

I couldn't just do the one watch thing....I'm too obsessed with matching it to my outfit. I'd at least have to have 2....one to go with a black/grey clothing scheme, and another to go with earth-tones....damn i sound like a chick.

I agree with you. My collection at one time grew to over 10 watches. I then reduced to two , Rolex DSSD and Panerai Pam 326. Currently one watch, Rolex Daytona, WG Meteorite Dial. HOWEVER, GETTING THE URGE TO PICK UP ANOTHER ROLEX OR PANERAI TO TRADE OFF. HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!IT MUST BE A DISEASE.

I have three lesser quartz watches (Luminox) in addition to my Rolex. I just liquidated two other from my stable (Omega SMP and a TAG diver). Omega I wore and other I didn't. Because of the fine people here, I came to this realization of being a one luxury watch man. I call myself a WIS, but I feel that I can be one and only have one nice watch too. I want that one watch that I'm always going to have. Now I just need to sell my DJ so I can get it. 14060 all the way. I would rather be faithful to one than to feel guilty about the other five sitting in the drawer.

I respect what you're saying there - but - if the Sub doesn't go with it - don't wear it...The look probably doesn't work...

I may have flipped a bunch of watches in my time but I have always stuck to the one watch rule. I can see two watches but thats it.

Eric, you are NOT a one watch person. Just embrace it, dude. Lol. You've tried to no avail. The thought of just one may be tempting but it obviously doesn't work for you.

I say perhaps it is time to get some more variety in your collection??? What I mean is that I was flipping quite often back and forth and eventually acquiring all the same watches again and again I have recently fallen head over heels in love with Panerai and this has made me feel very satisfied. I currently have 4 pieces in my collection. Of the 4 2 are Panerai and 2 are Rolex... They are all different so the variety is there.
IMHO no matter how different your Rolex watches are they are still Rolex, same with Panerai and the like. I would branch out and try something different. Maybe Panerai is not for you but Patek is, you get the idea. Good Luck

After having the satisfaction of owning a 'collection' of them I am sort of in the process of doing that but I want to get down to a Rolex trio first before going further down to a 'one watch' status in the future. Its just a change of mindset on my part now whereas in the past it was 'the more the merrier'.
Disclaimer: The above is about cutting down my Rolex collection only as I have other non Rolex watches as well which I will keep. |

I've gone from 1 to 6-7, to 3, to 8-9 and now i'm hoping to get down to maybe two that I wear and a couple of others I simply look at which aren't financially crippling.
The luxury watches are the daily weares, the others once in a while, maybe. Oh, sorry Eric, how self indulgent speaking only of my situation. You have no chance here mate, keep buying and enjoying. One watch? But WHY :-) Cheers Richard |

I'm down to one sport watch (GMT II Pepsi, coke & black), one dress watch (IWC 3531 small Portuguese) and a beater (seiko skx007) and feel great about having 1 watch for every occasion rather than having to decide between 5-6 watches.

I can't afford all rolexes but I do like to have variety so my Tags & Seikos fill the void.

Nothing 'chick' about it. A lot of us guys here dig style. Think of all the posts from guys with shoe collections, cool socks. It's good stuff in my book. And if I could afford it, I can't even imagine how many different watches I would buy for my various moods and styles.
