Let's see some 16800s!
Hey guys. Having just picked this one up I've been reading about the dial variations on this somewhat elusive Sub. I'd love to see some out in the wild. I got this one for my dad, as some of you may know, and he is as we say "chuffed to bits" with it!

I hope we aren't the only two proud 16800 owners...

That's the matt dial + sapphire crystal transitional one isn't it? Beautiful.

How did you get patina on your strap?! Awsome combo. Love it. I'm going to show my dad that pic if you don't mind?

The watch has been a safe queen pretty much all its life and the lume (with tritium reaction in the dark) has gone this tango colour as a result. I had the strap made for me by ABP in Paris in Alligator with stitching to match the tango lume to help emphasise this aspect of the watch. The strap also has a matching orange colour leather lining as can be seen below. |

Find that the lume and pearl go a darker patina with the 16800's more than most other watches. Not sure why though.

Agreed and I believe it is to do with tritium content but either way I really like it. Mine was the first with the gloss dial which has also gone matte, presumably from tritium reaction over the years, and as such the orange lume really stands out. Hence the reason i wanted to accentuate it even more But I have read that the longer the watch has been hidden away, the more noticable the tritium reaction is on the colour of the lume. I know for a fact from the previous owner that mine spent most of its 26 year life locked away.....

I've read that they go lighter again when worn regularly and kept out of the dark. I think patina is special since modern watches will never get it as Rolex will never make another watch with the outlawed tritium lume.

I have also read differing views on the colour change going forward but given it took 26 years to get to this colour, I think it will take quite some time to change back if, indeed, it ever does. Also, as I rotate all my watches, it still only sees daylight every few weeks or so |
