Just wondering how many of you out there are fussed about original box and papers when it comes to a potential Rolex/Tudor (secondhand) purchase?
I know some couldn't care less as long as the watch is sound as you don't wear the box/papers but others (myself included) are willing to seek out watches that have their original papers if possible (although IMHO it is getting harder and harder all the time) - this said my 1680, 1601 and 16750 only have RSC papers.
What's your preference?

I like having them. If the deal was right, I'd buy without them, but having them is definitely a plus for me

I'm of two minds here. If I can get B&P certainly.

I'm not of the opinion they're worth some of the premiums I see on certain pieces. Many of my vintage pieces simply have service papers.

I would be reluctant to buy an LV without papers as LV is not marked on the case.

A box and papers should never be a deal breaker with an authentic Rolex.. And the paper in hand should never be the basis of proof.

All they demonstrate is that some are better paper filers than others.

On certain vintage pieces they can "sweeten" the deal, but the fact remains...there are just too many watches out there, like everything else, where the original receipt, outdated warranty, or the box it came in are looked at as little more than the mornings trash.

I have yet to BUY a second hand watch. I once SWAPPED a Sub Date 16610 for a Sub 5513, but since I did it on impulsive, he did not get neither box, nor papers, and since he didn't have either, too, I didn't get box and papers as well.

But if I were to BUY a second hand Rolex today, I would insist on getting the full package.

I always try to get the whole "caboodle" but some times it is not possible ! Of course when I make a new purchase it goes without saying. Just my 2C

I think you are mistaking me for someone else. I've never owned an Oysterquartz in my life - all automatics and all brand new....going back to 1980.

Since have always purchased BNIB it wasn't an issue but obviously full sets are alwys preferred.

2.nd hand ROLEXES are really very very expensive and the price of a 2003 or 2004 model blue TT is very close to the brand new one thats why to wait and buy new will be best and I will also get all papers and boxes simply everything but except the hologram cause I ll buy from Swiss.

From what I'm understanding about the Rolex corporation, if you by a really good vintage without box and papers and have it serviced and Rolex will actually service it and you keep the service papers, this is just as good almost cause they won't service a non-authentic.

Hang on to those papers and I'd say you are good to go.

I'm thinking box and papers on anything new or pre-owned that's NOT vintage. After that, it's a toss up based on the piece, the seller, etc.

I saw one 116509 2006 model for sale at a respected dealer for £1800 less than an identical one from the same vendor.

The only difference was the less expensive on had no box and papers.

I find this "box and papers" mentality staggering....

I mean really, ..why ?

I have 7 Rolex..5 for me and 2 for my wife..Between them I have three complete boxes, 1 inner box only, and 4 sets of paper...next month (after my wifes older DJ is serviced) I'll even have an extra service box and an additional set of papers.

If I were to sell one of them, I could put it in one of my boxes (or for 25 bucks I could buy a box on the internet) and I could probably scare up some adequate paperwork....As a matter of fact, I bet I could get paperwork with the right numbers on it.

You know, I'll bet I could even take a picture of some paper I have, photoshop in the right numbers, and we both go away happy.. Some of you would even pay me extra for that bit of effort...thank you very much.

You would get a genuine Rolex from me....but do you know what that paperwork is worth ????? Just asking
