Explorer date 1960?
Hi Just looking for a value on something like this. I sold it in a hurry and now I am not sure I did the wright thing. So any thoughts will help either I feel better or I learn hard lesson. I got this watch very cheap but I may have sold it very cheap too. It has a l;ot of wear on movement and a broken and soldered weight you can see in the pic the dial is in ruff shape and the case and back is beat up but it is an Explorer date 1960. So let me know guys thanks!
Thanks guy be gentle |

I'm no expert in this field but I thought that all Rolex models with a date function had movements ending in "5". Yours is clearly marked 1530 so I suspect that something odd is going on - can anyone offer an explanation?

"The Horse has left the Barn" so not much point in dwelling on it now. Movement would be correct without the "5" in the number, and looks like it would need some major overhauling. Without knowing the number you sold it for or bought it for hard to make a call. If you sold it for more than you paid for it a positive result .... NO?

Yes it is gone out the barn,,,, BUT,,, the barn It when to has another horse that I like!
A no date Sub. So what I was thinking it may give me a little hay to bring it back to my barn. I love the no date Sub and this farmer sure loved the Explorer so not all is lost. I did make money so that is great but is it worth lots more than $1500? Or is it about right? I seen an Air king date sell for $1350 on ebay Dec 6th But some guy had a big price on an Explorer date with box and paper in great shape $4500 Thanks |

i am a fellow canadian and i had one like this in my hand and was offered it for 1100cdn. i turned it down, but the watch ran well and had a clean dial. the guy ebayed it for about 2800usd. now, the value of this watch is in the dial because from what i can guess, people want an 'explorer'. yours was beat. you didnt do too bad. you maybe could have kept the band, but its likely a 19mm crimped bracelet worth 200 on a good day. harry

Thanks Harry. I was thinking at first $1500 was good but then I seen some crazy pricing and I thought I messed up. The dial was splotchy you can't see in these pics because I cleaned it after and they show up after the soap and water ( maybe I should have left it a lone) The band was solid and loose maybe not original I feel better maybe he will give me a nice deal on his Sub nd. what goes around hopefully comes around.
I did make some good money as well! James |

Thanks Harry Still got a lesson. Must research before selling. I bought it as just some old Rolex and played with it then listed on Craigs A collector called and it was gone. Then I checked it out and came across a Explorer 1016 and i thought maybe I really pooched it.
Glad to hear I did not. At least not like The Habs LOL The Canucks going to have a long year again I think. There up right now anyways>> HAppy Christmas James |

Technically you are probably right, but most of the bridge plates are marked with the "0" not "5" as the last digit (e.g. "1570" rather than "1575"). An exception is the caliber 1065, which is the date version of cal. 1030.
