there is a section of a well known rolex website dedicated to dead rolex watches.

sadly, any situation which kills a rolex, usually does massive damage to the squidgy bit to which it is strapped.

Have to agree in normal wearing even if using as a tool watch to say dive.It would be very difficult to ruin a Rolex watch if you had it serviced regular. And considering today that most Rolex watches get a very pampered life to ruin a Rolex in normal wearing would be very unlikely..

I did see a post just the other day that someone had shared a picture of a letter they received back from Rolex saying that to service their watch would be so extreme that they weren't going to do it... and Rolex just sent the watch back with this letter. Rolex also said something like, consider another one!

I'll try to find that post and quote it here.

Not sure if it counts as "ruined" or not, but if Rolex says they won't service it, I would consider that basically ruined/end-of-life. (But I know... some of you will probably say that any watchmaker (besides Rolex) could probably fix it...)

How about the two guys here in Destin Florida that took a Day-Date into the AD to have it pressure tested.

It passed.

Later Drunk on their boat they tried to give it their very own pressure test by tying it to their fishing line and sending it to the bottom of the gulf.

We will never know if it passed their test because a barracuda ate it on the way up.

Best story I heard -

A client of ours was at a party. Much drinking was involved. He was wearing a Deepsea, another partygoer was wearing a GMT Master. They decided to see which watch was tougher.

They smashed the watches together repeatedly on their wrists.

Needless to say, the Seadweller won.

Although this was not a Rolex, my dad was using a high powered pneumatic nail gun, and this was back in the days (the 60's) when there were no safety mechanisms. Well, he accidently fired it point blank into his wrist. The staple would have surely gone right through his wrist if it weren't for the steel spandex bracelet holding the Timex watch on his wrist. The bracelet exploded, but dad walked away without a scratch. He bought a new spandex bracelet for the watch and I don't think he has ever taken it off since.

I guess that became his lucky watch. We should all wear a watch, just for the safety
