Rolex for wife: change bracelet or change dial?
I know many posts ask for advice on buying a watch for a spouse. Here’s another one….
Disclaimer: I’m an ignorant newbie, so don’t worry about insulting my intelligence with basic advice. I have found out what my wife wants: midsize DJ, two-tone, fluted bezel, black diamond dial, two-tone oyster bracelet. I have been looking for a good pre-owned one for months. I have contacted various sellers on TRF but unsurprisingly nobody has this exact watch. I have looked on eb*y but haven’t seen exactly what I need and am not expert enough to buy there with much confidence anyway. If I expand my search to allow a TT jubilee band and any (authentic Rolex) dial, my odds go up. In theory I could buy the watch and have the offending part, be it band or dial, switched out by a Rolex Service Center. Here’s my question: is this a dumb idea? Would it likely end up costing nearly as much as a new watch? Is switching out one (band or dial) more practical than switching out the other? Any other advice? Thanks very much! JM |

Do you know for a fact that your wife would like a preowned watch? Not everyone does. Start there.
Of course an AD can order your watch in to those specs. In terms of changing out, I think you'd wind up with an expensive fix, whether to the bracelet or the dial. |
