Hello all:

The past weekend brought me a fine new addition, Z series Explorer II white dial. I haven’t had time yet to post any pictures but I did want to go ahead and ask a question regarding this model. After getting home from the AD, I noticed under “outside light” that there are 2 places on the top/outer edge of the bezel that almost look like a scratch or scratches. Now granted, this is under “major scrutiny” and can not be seen unless you hold the watch at a certain angle with the light refracting just right. Does anyone else with this model no what I’m talking about. JJ can you shed some light; I know you just did a recent review. I believe it’s just part of the brushed finish and I’m not sure that it warrants being called and imperfection.

Another question I had and I think it’s been on this forum before, is the laser etched coronet down at the 6:00. It seems much more visible on my other models. I guess it’s the white dial that makes it so hard to see. Any thoughts on how to increase the contrast in order to get a better look at it.

Sounds like your bezel problem could easily be sorted out with a polish, if you REALLY wanted to go that route but I think if it's that hard to see and it's on the bezel (which will pick up scratches along the way as you wear it) you should leave it alone.

As far as the laser etching...I wouldn't try to find that against a white dial with the naked eye. Grab a loupe or a magnifying glass!

Hi Tag,

Can only tell with a good picture if you would post one.

As for the laser etching.....yes, it's very difficult to see against a white dial background. Much easier with the Blue Sub dial or even any black dial.

The bezel of the Explorer is not very easy to "polish" since it it a matte finish bezel. And every time its get a re-finishing, you wear off metal, so I would let a tiny scratch like this alone and have it removed when your Explorer gets its first service.

Thank you for your replies. I think the mark I was seeing on the Bezel was just part of one of the brush strokes on the steel. I’m not used to seeing so much brushed steel on the top of a bezel. It really is a big change from looking at a bezel with an insert,..Sub..Gmt..etc…As for the laser etched crown, after going back through some old posts on the forum, I found a suggestion to use a flashlight looking from the 12:00 down toward the 6:00 at a very sharp angle. It worked rather well when viewing it this way. Here’s a quick pic of my newest addition and one of his buddies.
