Strap life expectancy??
Being new to Panerai & straps in general I have a quick question.....how long do quality straps typically last if you take care of them & don't make a habit of getting them wet?

Depends if you're talking OEM or the tough as nails after-market AMMO's. The AMMO's will last forever. I personally don't generally wear the OEM's so I'll let others chime in on that. However, I think they're far more delicate than the latter that I named.

Depends on how many straps you have and how you hard you are on them.

As Bryan said Ammo's and the "good" expensive straps are bulletproof.
With the OEM's you never know what it will be. The last that i bought was an assolutamente, which opened in the sides where the buckle hugs the strap after a few times that i wore the strap. |

No interest in the OEM's, just the "good" expensive aftermarket straps...thanks for the info.

Good to hear, I figured the vintage leather straps would age & hold up well. Couldn't think of a reason why non-vintage leather wouldn't as well as long as the strap has solid stitching via a skilled strapmaker. Thanks again for the quick feedback all.

Straps are addiction. Soon you'll have enough and rotate them that any single one will last a long time.

depends on a few things like length of wear, weather, how you look after it and obviously the quality of leather/stitching and the workmanship.
i have just "re-conditioned" all my leather straps today |

Any preventative care tips to help maintain the leather?

It's relative. To me, it's not how long it can last but how do you like them. I'd rather have few I really like than many that I kind of like it straps.

Only one PAM, a Radiomir 287, heavy.
I have a Mario Paci Ostrich which I use a waterproof conditioner on, it just becomes more supple and richer looking, it's thick at 5mm. No wear visible. A polished gator with a beautiful calf lining from Thailand doesn't mind the odd splash of water and is wearing well. Better than I expected. As with a lot of owners here, the OEM Radiomir deployant and black gator strap stays in the box. I don't baby the watch or the straps, maybe I should. It sorta rotates with a Rolex, but gets more rough and tumble. I'm a hands on engineer type, no collars and cuffs. |

My PAM 104 is about 3 years old. I wore it exclusively for 1 full year, and on and off for the other two. I had one OEM black alligator strap and it is heavily used, but is still functional. The gloss of the alligator is starting to turn matte black where there is wear from the adjustable watch strap end keeper. The strap is a little bent permanently from use where the hole I use the most is, making it to wear I wouldn't want to make it tighter or looser. I'd say that the OEM is very durable. And that after I noticed a little too much wear and tear I remembered to buy a few extra straps which is why I bought the panerai to begin with.
