Vintage Chronograph question?

Just curious is it better for a chronograph watch to have only the sub seconds dial running or the main second hand + subs on a daily basis. By better I mean less stress on the movement.

This answer may be obvious, however, I've seen some folks who leave it running (The chronograph function) and others say it's better if only the sub seconds dial is functioning thus chronograph not engaged.

Thanks in advance.

Cannot see any point in running the chrono function 24/7 whether vintage or modern. You have the sub seconds thats running with the watch for seconds.Would doubt if any harm would come to a modern day movement running 24/7. Except for a few hours less total power reserve but whats the point in running it if you are not record timing something.

More moving parts need more energy, thus lower power reserve. Also, more gears moving, faster rate of gears wearing out. When I had my '67 SPeedmaster serviced by Omega, I did get back a bunch of replaced gears. All in all, its probably pretty deminimus.
