Hi, im new here and this is my initial post.
I`m looking at buying a GMT master 2 ceramic model 116710LN in the UK.
The pictures of the watch seem genuine and the questions that i have asked the seller all add up. How can i definately garauntee authenticity and the seller has told me that he will meet me at any watch dealers to verify it.
Could i have some help regarding what verification i can establish, what will a jewellers tell me and he has said that he will get the back opened at a dealers. Will this invalidate any warranty and break any waterproof seals.
Any help regarding who i should speak with or who i can contact to establish authenticity would be very helpfull.
What and where are the hallmarks on this particular model?

First, buy the seller, ask for some references and call them if he is a dealer.

If it's a private party transaction, call some watch shops and tell them what the situation is and you would be happy to pay them to fully check out the watch and provide an written appraisal

Good luck and since this is your first, do not cut any corners

Welcome to TRF.

Rule #1 Buy the seller.

Call an AD near you and see if you can schedule an appointment for them to perform this service. Keep in mind they don't have to perform this service since you are not buying from them, however if they do they may charge you for this service.

If you are this concerned that this may not be authenic you may want to buy from someone you can trust such as an AD.

The other option would be to buy from a trusted seller on this forum.

Buy the Seller.

I'm so paranoid with this one. The seller seems ok and the pictures of the watch seem ok. Is there a service that Rolex give over the phone as well as in store to authenticate? How much am I likely to be charged for such a service?
Having once been the owner of a brand new seadweller I know the pitfalls when searching for a watch.

seller ids.(more than one) proof of ownership. meet at ad. have watch inspected at ad. is seller the original owner? is the watch a uk watch?

There is no service to authenticate over the phone and as the seller has agreed to meet you at a AD,I would not think the watch was anything but genuine. Perhaps you are being a bit paranoid,but the only real way is getting back off to check movement.Now most watchmakes with the correct case back tool could do this, and again most could pressure check to 200m -300m after and you cannot mistake a genuine Rolex movement.

Demand an inspection period on the watch, and during that time just take it to an RSC. They'll tell you immediately if it's real or not. You can simply ask them whether the watch needs a service and they'll check it out. The one drawback is that if it's a stolen watch, I've heard they will confiscate it. (Also, this assumes you're able to get to an RSC.) Good luck.

Yes the idea it's stolen or an insurance job is off putting to say the least.
I need to contact rolexroz as one forum member kindly advised. Can anyone pm me some contact details?

I won't personally name the guy as I only know his first name. He's a buyer of pre owned watches and sounds quite young. He's based in Chesham.

Hi welcome fellow biker (kawasaki?) just my take on this. I looked for pre owned in the uk , i shunned ebay and just visited watch shops. I only have two ad in my area and they didnt have a sub i wanted. Sure other shops had them but i was always uneasy. I went down the new route and am happy.
Since following the traffic on this site if i was to upgrade or make a further purchase i would probably go down the trusted seller route.
Its easy to say buy the seller, but ordinarily thats hard. On trf its easier because you can see all all the comments for the sellers. This makes the research so much easier.

In summary its your choice , yep you could save a proportion on the watch, but what price the nagging doubt that when you put it in for a service or some wis says to you " those lugs are wrong" the money savings will be long forgotton.

Just buy a new one from an AD and relax in the knowledge that it is genuine.
Why go through all this heartache to save a couple of quid?

Sounds like you may need to do more research about watches, the non-AD buying process etc. you may not be ready.

Otherwise, as was suggested...pay full price at an AD and dont worry about authenticity.
