Luminor base vs logo

Hi. I am interested in a Panerai and I have done some research and tried a few on. I like the Luminor over the Radiomir, and I want to keep things simple with this watch. I love the simplicity of the base model and the manual wind really sings to me! I have several clustered automatics with multiple complications, and that is not what I want on my next watch.

I have researched the Panerai website and I can see that the base model has a different calibre movement than the logo, I think I saw that caseback is Ti on one and steel on the other, and straps are different.

Are there any other differences to be aware of? Are these differences enough to pay $900 more for the base?

One more really stupid question... are straps easy to obtain?

Thanks in advance!

For me the biggest substantial diffference is whether you like the logo or not.

I cant remember if the base had a painted or a sandwich dial.

The logo is painted.

I kind of like the logo.

Different straps can be found in a lot of different places.

If you want the sandwich dial you have to go for a 112 or 176. The 000 have a painted dial (but also has the logo, that looks real good).

All comes down to personal preferences and where things fall on the spectrum....personally, I like the feel of SS on the skin and wouldn't give up that feel for the sapphire just to see the PAM base movement.

As has been said, logo only on painted dials (000 and 005).

Re: straps....there are a couple OEMs that can take a little time unless you go through a boutique (JV for example), but the vast majority can be sourced readily. That's a good thing and a "bad" thing, since strap addiction is strong!

Good luck with the hunt!

Sandwich v Painted Dial's for your reference.

These are both 112's. The one on the left is a current model with Sandwich dial, the one on the right is the older model (E-G) with the Painted dial.

The 000 is Painted, which I think looks better on Luminors for some reason.

Here is another shot of a sandwich v. painted. These are my watches.

210 Sandwich v 111G Painted.

Hope this helps. I vote 000

111 or 000. If you think you hv the itch and you must have a sandwich dial then go for the 111. Otherwise the 000 is the all round best for the buck Panerai if you ask me.

I prefer the 112 because of the sandwich dial and the display back. In fact, I own an N series 112.
