First Rolex - First Post - 1966 Datejust 1600
Hey guys,
Joined the forums a few weeks ago. Top notch group of guys! This past Christmas, my grandfather passed down his 1966 Rolex Datejust 1600 to myself. Here is a video review of the watch: http://youtu.be/OA14Y6l92JE Some things to note, I think I got the 'caliber' and 'movement' mixed up, or something along those lines. Please excuse this, it's my first Rolex after all. Also, 'Before the watch can be sold, they send it to Switzerland...' DUH! It was made in Switzerland. Anyways, hope you guys like the video and the watch. On a side note, I've had a very hard time finding a comparable watch on the net (2 tone 1600). If you have any images or information on this watch, it'd be greatly appreciated! All the best, Diego |

Welcome to TRF Mr. Méndez!
This is a great looking watch, I was amazed by its great shape despite its age and was especially surprised to see so many papers, congratulations on that beauty!

Thanks you for the kind words.
The watch is indeed in excellent shape. As I said in the video, a long time ago he decided to put the Rolex and other valuables in a bank safe. As for the papers, well they really mean the world to me. All the best, Diego |

Not really worth a lot.... I can see the bracelet is almost had it.... it is called STRETCH!
2 Tone is not that wanted now days..... but nice watch - espcially as it was your grandfathers...... BUT .... you want to sell it!!!! Probably worth $1000- ? maybe US$1300- but the bracelet kills the price. Would be about $2000- if bracelet was nice and not stuff. WHY!!!! Why do you want to sell it???? |

I will never sell this watch. I will give it to my grandson, and that is that. Also, I never asked what the watch was worth. I don't know if your post was some witty humor, but either way, not needed. All the best, Diego |

I've got a 1966 1601 (14k) on a strap. Still runs like a top.

@ polarexplorer, its a family heirloom he said he wanted to pass down to his kids, what makes you think he's selling it.
