Anybody watched Spartacus?

What do you guys think? I guess it was ok, even if Spartacus is now a very different character and Andy W and Batiatus are sorely missed.

Should be interesting though if they can pull out a decent and fun villain.

I had a hard time following it. I was not sure who the woman was who was beaten by the Romans and died. And, I do not know who her son is. So, I could not follow the characters too well. But, I will give it time.

She was Varro's wife. Varro was Spartacus friend (the blonde guy) ... the one Spartacus is forced to kill during a fight to entertain a noble family on Season 1.

It was good and I am definitely interested to see where this season goes. It was a bit hard to follow but that was mainly due ot the fact it has been two years where this story left off. I am looking forward to this season.

I enjoyed the last two seasons a lot. I figure I will give this guy a chance. It also seems like the flavor of the series has changed.

^^^ Yep, the new Spartacus thinks he is Viggo's Aragorn now ... plus, like I said, the great John Hannah (Batiatus) will be very hard to top.

Anytime an actor steps into another actor's shoes for a part, it is difficult. Andy Whitfield "was" Spartacus. But, in time the new guy may get into the grove. In the new episode Spartacus has a love interest. I cannot recall was that same actress the love interest before? I do not seem to remember her. I also miss all of the other gladiators who were in the previous shows. It seems like only the Gaul is original and the black actor who played Doctory. He is great.

I agree! I DVR'd the last Spartacus about the revolt and watched it just before I watched the new one. It seemed harder to follow because of the differences.

Actually it is a picture of the guy in San Diego. You know, the one who is always going back and forth with Jocke. I think he calls himself the VDGuy because the San Diego Health Dept was using him in some of their health warnings.

I'm going to wait and see how the show works out over the season before watching it. I am hopeful for it. The story necessarily has to change as it moves from one of a gladiatorial slave to the tale of the leader of the third great slave revolt in Rome, the tale of a man who mustered tens of thousands together to make his own army.

I just watched the remastered Spartacus with Kirk Douglas. It was pretty good and gave you a lot more depth to the feel of the immensity of the "Slave Army". It is also interesting to watch the masses of people and remember there was no CG back then.

I have seen the movie a few times, but not anything else.
Alex North scored the original; I was buddies with his brother, Harry, until Harry died at age 88.
