It is 10 mins from my house. I made an offer on it yesterday and the seller has no idea what it was. I was the first bidder at $1.00 when he listed it. I offered $5,000 k cash yesterday.

It will sell in the $40,000 range.

WOW! That thing is going to sell for a lot! What a great looking 6538! Whomever buys it, should get in contact with Matt and they can meet up with Bond Nato's on. That'd be a really cool picture! A 5508 and 6538 together!

Let's see who guess closest. I go for $38k. This is less scary than putting in an actual bid on the bay :)

Wow people would pay $40k for a watch that isn't working? Wouldn't any repair work done on it (new parts ect) take away from the original value? Crazy..

I'm picking $60k plus .......

I watched this 6538 2-liner a couple of weeks ago .... was feeling lucky when bidding stalled at $12k.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ULTRA-RARE-R...item1e6a544750

The market decided it was worth $63k ......

There's a fine line between getting a good deal and taking advantage of someone. Maybe an offer of $25,000 would have been a "great deal" and a "fair offer".

I couldn't sleep at night knowing that I got that watch at $5,000 from an unknowing seller.

I agree A buyer is under no obligation to say "wow, that watch should be priced $10,000 higher"

I do a lot of buying of antiques (artwork, pottery, furniture, etc.). I've been at flea markets where someone has a painting for sale for $3. It's worth several hundreds of dollars. On more than on occasion I've informed the seller that they have something quite valuable and should do a little homework...or I tell them what I think it's worth and make them a "fair" offer.

I guess I care more about how I interact/treat with others than I do about screwing them over and taking something from them when they don't know any better. Call me old fashioned, I guess.

Michael,

You got some crazy deal on a 3-6-9 sub (I think) at a yard sale or something like that, am I correct?

My 2 cents worth .......

Matt's offer was light of course but hey - we all like a bargain.

For many folk (including me), $5k is a tidy sum of money and a local sale may have appealed to the seller.
Matt's offer was also high enough to suggest to the seller that the item had some real value.

An old fella called Bobbles posted his 5510 on eBay last year. I recall an early offer of $ ... 500 for a quick sale ...".
I call that screwing them over.

It was worth a try Matt - good on ya I say.

I'm going to play devil's advocate. The seller has only been selling for about a year. The most expensive item he has sold in the past 6 months was for $400 and change. I truly believe this auction will be canceled and the guy is going to do little homework. The pressure has to be too much for him. Or, someone is going to offer him something realistic for the watch and he'll end it.

Otherwise, I say $48K...........lol

Even tho the bracelet is missing, and it originally had the rivet type, It should bring $30k+ USD.

Believe it or not.

Sure wish the seller posted some model and serial sequence, but according to the 1/58 date shown on the back cover, it could be a 3xx,xxx series.
Based on the bidding, somebody knows what it is, or probably has a line on the parts needed to finish it off.

Here a pic of my 3/58 model 6538 (with a repro Dial only, tho it originally was a four liner),
and was sold overseas thru our resident Vintage Rollie expert, Steve Mullholland.
