Why cant Rolex make the crown when screwed in completely upright?

Correct me if i am wrong but i believe other brands have the crown when screwed in to display their logo in the upright manner.
I have a Datejust II that when tightened the crown is almost upright (about 15 degrees to the right) and most frustratingly i have a 116610LN SUBc that has an almost completely upside down crown when closed. Am I crazy or is that frustrating to anyone else?

Doesn't bother me, as mine is almost upside down. But I can see how it can bother people.

There has been lots of debate about this, personally it bothered me at first, after a while, did not anymore. Personal preference.

Interesting enough my Tudor Heritage Chrono I recently acquired lines up perfectly, none of my Rolex timepieces line up! I will post pictures later on tonight.

It's not something Rolex does. But then again they don't do other things either. I would imagine the seal on the crown that provides water protection makes this a challenge. For me it's not something that bugs me, heck I haven't even checked this out on any of mine.

But if it bugs you that much why not buy one of those who are able to do this?

Its a winding crown for winding and setting your watch why has it got to be upright or any other position. And who will look or even notice where the rolex emblem is. Perhaps Rolex should remove the emblem from there winding crowns then everyones would line up somwhere.

Not the point. I can understand the OP's concern. Some folks who pay large sums for their Rolex timepieces expect everything to be perfect aesthetically. Ultimately we use these expensive instruments to tell time, however, you should know better than anyone else that we are not discussing Fossil timepieces where imperfections can be overlooked. By the way thanks for your response on my Valjoux query

This minor point does not bother me at all and is not frustrating in the least. I mean who actually looks at the crown when you are wearing the watch as I look at the dial to see what time it is.....also who is going to walk up to you and say your watch would be really nice if the crown lined up properly!!!

What is the significance of upright anyways?

I think for Rolex to spend time doing this, they might as well engrave their spring bars and screws with ROLEX also ---- just not worth it----

Only if the R on the spring bar aligns with the beginning of the bracelet hole ...

I guess I'm lucky, but my understanding is that when I service it, it will most likely change.

To properly align the coronet on the Rolex crown, all one needs is a common set of household pliers.

More difficult cases may require one of these.

Thank you, I believe you get what I was trying to say. Dont get me wrong, I would buy my two watches again no matter where the crown is when tightened. I appreciate the Quality and the Brand tremendously. I just look at the crowns and wonder, why not? If IWC can do it on their big pilot, why not Rolex?
I am 100% positive it would be achievable to them, heck they can do it and make some crazy name for it like Superlative parallel tightening system and advertise the S*** out of it. (i am sure they would)
And to anyone who will tell me just go buy an IWC... I dont want an IWC I want Rolexes and lots of them

As far as i know,Rolex use a one start thread so the crown will always end up at the same place. The ideal would be to remove the crown off the crown(a suggestion by padi numerous times) or make the crown with four little crowns on and at least one of the crowns will be in line somehow. Myself i am not bothered

Maybe Rolex should use "spinner rim" technology and make a crown that can be spun independently from the actual winding stem.

It would take some interesting mechanics to achieve this...

Consider that right now the alignment can change depending upon how much force you use when you tighten it each time; therefore, changing the position each time.

There would have to be a mechanical 'stop' put in and then you would have to worry about water tightness...

I think Rolex should change the pictures on their website. If they make the crown points randomly in their pictures, it might change expectations of people.

I believe they have some technical issues. If they don't care at all, why the crown in all the pictures on their website points upright?

Personally, if I can choose, I wouldn't buy a Rolex that the crown points upside down. But it's just me.

They are also all set to 10:10:32 on the 28th, I wouldn't expect my watch to always be that time either
