Help, daytona chronograph problem!

On a recent trip to Europe my husband "almost" got his rolex watch stolen. In the process the thief got off with a piece of the watch link strap.

My husband bought this "daytona chronograph" in 1966 in San Francisco, California. It has an all black face and the rest is silver color.

I am thinkinf of getting it fixed and give it to him again. He said he is thinking of selling it, as "having that watch right now is more of a liability, and a health hazard than what the watch is worth". He just turned 70, so he doesn't think he has much left to be a body guard to this watch. He has worn this rolex interchanging it with an old omega, and an old citizen watch since the 60's.

It looks like a regular watch to me, but I am not a connoisseur. I got on the net and started to research the watch, and I am flabbergasted by what I see.

You are all the experts, would it be easy to find a repair place who can fix the strap, or get the missing links from Rolex(3)? Is this an impossible task? Is there a better alternative?
If he decides to sell would the broken strap take a lot off the price? What is the best place to find out what the current price would be for this watch?

Any reply is greatly appreciated. If you think looking at pictures will help in answering any of my questions let me know.

Thanks to all,
