Exploded view of ring command?
Like it or hate it, the Sky-Dweller is a neat watch. My question is how waterproofing is maintained with the Ring-Command System.
I am guessing there is a mechanical (vs Magnetic) connection between the bezel and the innards of the watch, so I wonder how water is kept from entering the case. Does anyone have an exploded view (perhaps of the YM II) or something to look at? Maybe the first guy to buy a new Sky-Dweller can pop the ring and let us know what's underneath?? |

Maybe not waterproof at all, considering it was made for the sky and was shown with a leather strap

I would hope it's rated to 100m like the DJ/DD.

I would like to know how that dial is pit together. The small dial on the bottom almost looks like it floats or something.

Thank you TSW! I am still not sure how the ring motion is transferred to the innards...does it have something to do with the fourth little protrusion from the case (the one without the ball bearings and springs)?

Here is what I found in a thread earlier this week....highly interesting!
~taken from http://rolexpassionreport.com/3205/r...w-sky-dweller/ Interesting notes : “THERE ARE SEVERAL DOCUMENTS WHICH SUGGEST THAT A TURNING BEZEL FITTED WITH ANNULAR TEETH ENGAGING A RADIAL AXIS PINION SHOULD BE USED TO ADJUST A TIME FUNCTION, EITHER THE HOUR SPINDLE, THE DATE, THE DAY, THE MONTH OR EVEN THE YEAR. ONE OFTHESE ARRANGEMENTS IS DESCRIBED IN EP 1584000. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT IN THIS ARRANGEMENT THE BEZEL CAN ONLY BE USED TO ADJUST ONE OF THE FUNCTIONS MENTIONED.” & FINALLY, U.S. PAT. NO. 360,415 DISCLOSES A WINDING AND TIME SETTING MECHANISM IN WHICH THE STEM HAS ONLY ONE DEGREE OF FREEDOM IN ROTATION, PASSAGE FROM THE WINDING POSITION TO THE TIME SETTING POSITION BEING CARRIED OUT BY MEANS OF A CAMACTING ON A YOKE. SUCH A SYSTEM ONLY ALLOWS A CHOICE BETWEEN THE CONTROL OF TWO FUNCTIONS AND/OR TIME INDICATIONS. NOW THE OBJECT OF THIS INVENTION IS TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FUNCTIONS AND/OR TIME INDICATIONS WHICH CAN BECONTROLLED.” |
