Daytona Exotic Sighting......at McDonald's!

Since my purchase of a 16610 in June, I find myself (discretely) checking out other people's wrists to see what watches they are wearing.

At noon on Saturday, I stopped by my local McDonald's restaurant to pick up a quick sandwich for lunch and saw the owner working one of the cash registers.

Low and behold, he wears a Daytona exotic "Paul Newman" Rolex! (BTW, ironically, Paul Newman is a long-time resident of the same town where this McDonald's is located). The owner's Daytona has a white dial with black registers.

Business must be good at McDonalds! Anyone else here see Rolexes in unexpected settings?

No, that's Burger King

BTW: Daytona usually = a fine steakhouse, SD = a good seafood resturant, so congrats!

Speaking of a Mickey Ds Rolex sighting, about 4 years ago I am sitting there enjoying my Big Mac value meal and a brand new black Rolls Royce pulls up and yep, you guessed it, he had a Prez on his arm! The guy looked to be in his late 30s early 40s and had young kids, so I am thinking either a dot com guru, recently passes rich daddy or lotto winner

I went to Lexus dealer's parts department and the parts guy is wearing a black face Daytona. I think he is making more than what I expected as a parts counter guy.

You must be talking about Westport. We were there a few years ago and ate in a restaurant which Newman and Redford were supposed to frequent but did'nt see them. None of the locals there had much good to say about Martha. I was Rolex shopping at that time and talked to Mr. Jeffery at Swezey of Westport, 139 Main. Don't know if it's still there.

Unfortunately, Swezey's is closed now afer decades on Main St. Independent stores can no longer afford the exhorbitant lease rates here.

Fortunately, Martha is gone -- good riddance!

PLM opened a new restaurant, Dressing Room next to the beautifully restored Playhouse. You should check it out if/when you are in town again.

Rolex Daytona Exotic Dial "Paul Newman"

BTW, here's a photo of PLM from 3 years ago -- I like one of those patches on his race suit!

A recent article in the local paper claimed that there are more MBs registered in town than Toyotas.

A short cruise down the main shopping drag will quickly demonstrate that the new standard is AMG.

Given that AMGs are now also too common, lately I've been seeing more and more Bentley Continental GTs appear.

Is this madness? You bet!

I wish I had that kind of money. I bought a 1999 SL 600 with both tops, 72K miles, awesome condition for $22K about two years ago. The only issue I have is the leg room. I am just over 6ft tall and it is tight! But, when you merge onto the interstate at about 55MPH and punch it, that issues goes away!!! Sold new for about 120K, so I feel like I stole it!!!

Yachtman, those late 90s SL500/SL600s are beautiful cars That was Mercs heyday.Quality issues started in 2001 as reported worldwide eg Business Week. After the merger with Chrysler the top brass went over to Chrysler,to save things there.Big quality issues arrose 2000/2001 at Merc.I know,my 2001 E320 needed a new engine at 28000km. Quite a bad experience.
I drive a BMW now.

Hopefully it was original.

There are a lot more fakes out there than originals.

Anyway, when it costs a minimum of $1m+ to buy a McDonald's franchise, and access to around $300k liquid cash, then maybe $100k for a watch isn't too much.

John.

Gee. What's the point of sporting a Rolex if the cook wears one?

I thought the whole point of a Rolex was to make sure that one could differentiate between those who'd made it and those who hadn't.

Do I have to buy a Bentley now? (No - people will think I'm a rapper.)

Any suggestions?

What is the procedure with RSC for getting a Paul Newman dial installed?
