Want a Birth Year Rolex

Hello,

I've had my Sub-C for less tan 6 months and am already interested in a Birth Year Rolex (67). What would be the best way to find what was actually produced that year so that I can norrow down my search to some models I would like?

What is the best way to find a BY Rolex once I have narrowed it down to model?

Any things to look for or gotcha's to steer away from?

Once I do find it, how do I make sure it's a reasonable price?

Thanks!

I would suggest first listing all models from 67 that forumers suggest and than shortlist the one you like. Then contact the good sellers you have heard great things about to see what they have in stock!
Offcourse ask around on the forum to see what prices you would be looking at for the various references before making any offers. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable people around here. All the best!

Google search Rolex serial numbers and you will find some listings of the serial range and models to somewhat narrow down the year. It is not a perfect science, but you can get close.

Since you have a Sub-C, I'm guessing you would like a sports Rolex. So you'll have options like the Sub 1680, 5513, 5512 as well as GMT 1675.

Also thought this link thread formulated with input from forumers ( the prices may not be wholly accrurate since the thread is old and prices vary depending on market conditions) on the different vintages might be useful, not for the prices themselves but for checking which of the references are available. You can then check if any you find interesting were from 67..

Concur with my fellow 1680 and 1675 bud Eric. A nice vintage sub or 1675 is great. Rich

I'd advise against "birth year" as being the prime aspect of the search.

You should consider starting with the watch of your desires then look for the best example possible within a broadish time range.

Be prepared to pay a hefty price for a good and proper example, particularly depending on the model desired.

If it turns out to be circa birth year (you can never be sure for several reasons) then that's a bonus.

Another tactic could be to look for a DJ or similar with serial number prefix that most closely matches your dob.

This would be the cheapest option but I'd never consider it for myself. It's putting the cart before the horse.

Think you are completely right !
Bought myself a Day Date to 'start'
Now I am looking for a '69 in particular and I am willing to pay a price if I find it in 'my condition'
And the prices are really high unfortunately . . .
So :
No relumed dial,
Case not polished (or really slightly)
Matching bracelet in perfect condition

Give and take and I'll find one

Got all the time in the world . . . ;-)
