Video On How To Tell A Fake Submariner
I just found this video doing the rounds, some of you might have already seen it, first for me. I thought it might be of interest to the new buyers out there as it gives a few good pointers on how to recognise fake Rolex subs. To see it, click on the link below

I have seen this video before and it is a great and very detailed video. The guy really points out a lot of the things to look for when trying to distinguish a replica and genuine Submariner.
Actually, the last two tone Submariner that he presents in the video before talking about the genuine Submariner is actually a pretty decent fake. Its scary. Anyways, thanks for the post.

I have just realised he does them on the GMT and other Rolexes too, a great site.

This is a good video as far as it goes. The only problem is that the replica market is so dynamic that it is now out of date. Crown guards have improved, date magnification is now a no brainer and even the cheapies have 2.5x magnification. The bezel pearls are better, although not perfect yet.
There were a couple of things that he didn't mention. On the lower-end replicas the "m"s don't line up. The "m" in cronometer and submariner should be right above and below each other. Also, on the bracelet, the mid links should be hollow, but that is academic anymore, as most of the decent replicas have hollow mid links. The etched coronet at six o'clock is still to big on the reps, but it is getting better. The best way to tell is still opening it up. You can't fake the 3135 movement (at least not yet). They have the slotted rotor and the purple barrel in the fakes, but the lack of the Breguet overcoil and the screwed balance give it away. |
