I noticed differences Ceramic LV and LN
Just picked up a new Sub-C LN, already had a LV hulk, and a smurf, +DSSD.
There are a couple of differences I observed. 1) My LN is a G serial, while my LV is scrambled or at least starts with a number and not a letter 2) Font for the ft for the my HULK is the new one with a short f in the ft, while the LN-C is the older long f in the ft. 3) under a loupe the "2" on the calendar is thinner on the LN-C, while the newer (but older to me) HULK "2" is bolder or at least thicker, while the font for both.....as I am only comparing number "2" as that is today's date. 4) The bracelet on the HULK looks a little more grey and darker, while on the LN-C it looks more silver. 5) This is going to sound nuts.....the fancy "ROLEX" design on the inside of clasp feels a little rougher with my finger on the new LN-C while my HULK feels slightly smoother when I rub my finger in this area....on second rub maybe the difference is because the new one is newer. Anyone else see what I am seeing PS....my longer f in the ft on my DSSD..I think that's a first generation DSSD dial.....the dial looks not quite as glossy---more of a Matte finish than a new DSSD short "f" PSS....am I certifiably nuts ??? |

Very interesting assessment! it's always cool to read how meticulous some owners are with their timepieces!

Looking at some older posts...I think the kermit and the hulk both have a bolder date.
HULK bracelet is not as silver and more grey than LN.....this is for sure, wonder why no one ever commented. I would go right now and compare the Hulk grey bracelet to my DSSD as I believe the DSSD is not as silver as the LN... However I would possibly get in trouble if I looked now as my wife doesn't know that I picked up the LN today, and she probably thinks it's the DSSD. Wonder if she will notice before we get the credit card bill ???? (then she will notice !!) |

PS...also picked up like a $80 Submariner book at Barnes and Noble...didn't read all of it, but I figured I might as well, as I read free magazines there every day. |

Don't know if it's balls or stupidity on my part.
I love the 116610LV.....but the Green doesn't go with everything. My DSSD is beautiful but big, thought the LN Sub-C would be a great addition. It is, but some of the features on the LV-C are nice (am I crazy now ? Comparing calendar fonts)....bracelet may fit the slightest bit different---might be the differences between the LN-C and LV-C or the fact that one is like 3 or 4 months newer than the other and the LN still squeaks. Gotta go for a moment...the guys trying to put me in a white jacket just pulled up to my house.... |

I don't think any of those differences are intentional by Rolex. They often change fonts on dials and date wheels with different production runs. Im not sure about the bracelet colors. I didnt think when the bracelets were made they are actually designated for a LN or LV. Thought they just came out of a bin. I think Rolex buys the steel so color variation could just be from different runs of the steel. I have held both side by side several times and never noticed any difference in bracelet color.
I can't imagine taking the time to look at my watches that closely. Glad I'm not OCD. |

There is a difference in the bracelet color between the 116610LN and 116610LV without a doubt.
What maybe more subtle is the color of a DSSD bracelet gwalker, do you notice that your DSSD bracelet is less silvery than your 116610LN. I don't think Rolex pulls the bracelets just, "out of a bin". Why couldn't the metal mix for each bracelet be very slightly different by adding just a touch more or less of one part of the alloy mix and slightly change the color. The DSSD bracelet is different that the 116610LN is different than the 116619LB is different than the Yellow Gold bracelet one, I think the 116618 ? Why couldn't the 116610LV have a different bracelet than the 116610LN ? PS... at least on my 2 watches the LV calendar font is bolder or thicker than the LN, and while I am too lazy at the moment to grab my smurf...I think it to might also have a bolder font than my new LN. |

What's the name of the book? I'm always interested in picking up some good reads P.S. you should always know about the same or more than your AD when looking to spend your hard earned cash! As I tell my students knowledge is POWER!

The book is Vintage Rolex sport models by skeet and urul.
It only goes up to the 16800...mid eighties. Copyright 2008, but not sure when it was first printed. Checked online with Barnes and Noble and one 15 miles away had it. I rushed out to get it cost me $80 before tax. If you search I think you could get a discount. I had to have it right away. Same crazy reason I picked up a LN without my wife knowing. I was futzing with the bracelet a lot tonight...she didn't notice yet. I want her to notice without me telling her, but because I know she won't be pleased I won't outright tell her yet. But like I said when she sees the credit card bill......... |

I too have a long "F" G.
4) The bracelet on the HULK looks a little more grey and darker, while on the LN-C it looks more silver. Actually, I've noticed this on every single new Rolex I've ever brought home. As time goes on, the silver will effectively oxidize causing it to grey out compared to when it's new. It usually takes at least year of active wearing and getting wet etc. before it get it gets to it's greyest point. I actually really like it at that stage, and my G is getting close now. If you take your Hulk in and compare it to a brand new Hulk out of the case, your going to see this exactly. |

Totally agree about the bracelet colors. My LV-C is definitely darker than my LN-C, and I think my DSSD is somewhere in the middle.

Doesn't make me feel so silly dropping 7950 for my LN (got a 6% discount)....shoulda bought my DSSD from that AD that gave me a discount....my mistake. Only problem like I said before is that I told my wife, "Don't worry sweetheart, I am through buying watches". ----------------------------- Seriously I am 45 years old, and a fellow I know just passed away at the age of 73 2 days ago. I guess if he wanted a black sub-c he couldn't get it now, and any money that he had that is worthless to him now, other than what he left to his closest loved ones. Carpe Diem |
