I'm far from being an expert but here is my take on Hublot.
Hublot makes very cool looking watches. They have interesting features like their ceramic bezels. Their movements (at least from what I have seen) are mostly ETA movements. I believe the King Power models have in house movements but from what I was told at the Hublot Boutique in St Thomas, USVI, Hublot's focus is more towards the exterior aesthetics and not so much in the internals. $18KUSD is a lot of money for a pretty watch with a Swatch movement. On a watch forum such as this, that is not the sort of philosophy that will get much love. Just my $0.02 (CDN which is pretty much the same as USD these days) I'm sure there are much more knowledgeable people here with more insight on this topic. I'm sure that there are already other threads on this subject as well.

Short answer: No love here. But on the flip side there is a three page Hublot thread around here...with mostly nay I'm afraid.

My biggest concern with Hublot, a side from the blatant AP rip-off is that they can up with the awe-inspiring name "magic gold". Come on.

Sorry none here--just don't care for them myself. With that said--to each his own and so long as you love them nothing else matters!

I'm not the brand's biggest enthusiast but I must say I find some of their pieces (the rose gold sporty ones especially) quite beautiful. Sure, they do look like Audemars Piguet's but I still think they have their charm.

My feelings are similar to many voiced here. For the price range they're in, they are way overpriced for "flash in the pan" styling with drop in movements. More marketing than watchmaking. A lot of my complaint is about the pricing, not the watch itself. At those prices, they are competing with very fine brands and Hublot doesn't match up.
As Hublot starts doing more watchmaking, the brand can certainly improve its' stature. |

I had one and I liked it but like many other watches
I tired of it. I just felt I could get into something I would appreciate and enjoy more for the money. They are nice watches and have great customer service!

Hublot is a young company in a marketplace ruled by the ages. Yes they used generic movements and even quartz, but they had to start somewhere. They are making enormous stides and taking the watch world by storm. In 2008, they mmanufactured only 22,000 watches (they say they will never produce more than 30,000 per year) and hence are very exclusive. IMO they are the number one innovator of case materials. Their ceramic is arguably the strongest of all. They have developed and patented a gold that is unscratchable and they own the patent for the next 20 years. The have some of the most talented watchmakers in the world working for them. Many if of the best watchmakers from BNB including the entire Confrierie Horlogere (an elite team of watchmakers) came to work for Hublot and are designing some of the most brilliant and innovative movements today. In 2007 broke ground for a new plant which now houses production of Hublots own in-house movement.
I know of no other watch brand that evokes such polarizing emotion. Thats one of the added benifits of owning one. Love em or hate em, Hublot is here to stay and will continue to influenence and be a pioneer in the watch world. |

I like their styling, but for such enermous prices they should offer a quality in-house movement. They already started to put the UNICO in the 48mm cases, but for my wrist 44mm is the maximum size.
I think in a few years from now, if they put every piece of the puzzle together, and they will become a leader brand of the 21st century.

Beyond the Big Bang and all its iterations, there isn't much else. Unlike AP (which Hublot seeks to emulate), Hublot is a one trick pony. A young one at that.
