14060M or the new 114060

Guys, I am going to buy my first Rolex this year. I am interested in the ND sub. Two options are now available: a G serial 14060M from AD or wait for the new released 114060. 14060m is definitley a classic model, however, I prefer a "strong" brecelet; also I am concerned about the bule hairspring, does it matter that much? The 114060 has a Non SEL and soild bracelet, but is it more brittle?
So what is your option?

I'm leaning towards the SUB C ND..but thats cause i already have a 14060M... I say get the classic as a 1st...and im sure the SUB C ND gon follow soon

This topic has been discussed a lot lately. If you do a quick search for 14060 you will get lots of threads on the subject. Here is the latest.

IMHO, the ceramic has to much gloss on the new Rolex sport watches. If Rolex gave the dial and ceramic insert a matt finish like the new Omega PO's, it would have been a huge hit. Now it has sadly fallen into the world of jewelery, get a 14060 now.

I would get the 14060 - if you get the G-serial I believe it should have the blue parachrom hairspring (not that it matters). I've got one myself and will also get the 114060 when it's released...honestly, the bracelet on the 14060 is just fine...it's worked better than most other brands for the past 50 years!

And that is a bad thing? I don't care for the ceramic bezel or the maxi lugs. Old school all the way

ceramic for me, looks awesome, I like the newer clasps and fat lugs and also a big fan or the ceramic bezels that Rolex make

Hairspring is a dont care IMO.

I think the old bracelets are plenty strong. What are you worried about?

Parachrom hairspring doesn't matter much. And the bracelet of 14060M is pretty strong. The new model has a better clasp.

Don't be misled by macho-looking lugs or end-links: neither ever fail. Bracelets are only as strong as their weakest links, which are the spring bars.

The 14060 bracelet is very strong and functional, and appeals on a nostalgic level, but does seem out-of-place on an expensive watch in 2012. Those of us who prefer it know who we are. If you're undecided, you'd probably prefer the new one.

i would go for 14060M because its already discontined and soon they won't be available as new watch at the AD

if you like the 114060 down the road, you can still get them new cause Rolex will be making them years to come

I would go old school, if you think how many older Rolex's are still running without the 'Blue hairspring", including my two old Omega's, one being 47years and the other one is 78 years old and both have such a lovely 'tick' the latter one especially

personally i like the updates to the case as well as the ceramic bezel and glide lock clasp of the new subs. my vote goes for the new sub nd. im sure whatever you end up with you will love and you really cant go wrong with either.

I don't get why people wouldn't go with the new one. How many of you go to a car lot and buy the old discontinued model??? If you want a ND Sub buy one that's a few years old and save 50%. The ND Sub C isn't worth the asking price either IMO but I'd rather have it than the older one.

If you go pre-owned, you'll be able to find nice examples for 50-60% of the new NDc. Only you can decide if the ceramic bezel, fat lugs and new bracelet is worth it.

Either watch is a fine choice.

If a significant concern of yours is the strength of the bracelet, then I would add to what springbar said above. The springbars are indeed the weakest link. And to add to that, I would suggest that the old school 14060 with lug holes and thicker springbars all the way through is superior In this aspect to the new sub ND-c with it's standard spring bars and no lug holes. Just another thought to consider if robustness is important to you.

a week after i got my 14060M i tried the 116610 ..i was eager to trade it for the SUB C..before i did anything 'stupid' i seek some advice from the experts here on TRF...most of the experts here ask me to keep it coz its a true classic ...so i did..and sure enough the 14060M grew on me...the classic look..its comfortable and its cool as it is....to me the upgrade version got everything i love ...the glide lock/ceremic bezel/ a larger case...but i think its a lil 'unfair' to compare both side by side because 14060 kept its 'heritage' wherby the upgrade version got what i like to call 'better quality' ....if you ask me to choose again as my 1st...i will still pick the classic especially now since its been discontinued...hope this will help you instead of confusing you...but like all em TRFers said...you win either way because its a ROLEX...

nice review, the 14060M does feel great. I need to wear both of them to make a final decision, but the problem is that the new one may be avaiable way late this year...

Without starting yet another thread about the 14060m, I feel obliged to announce that i had a call from AD yesterday to say that a brand spanking new Sub is on it's way with my name on it. Hopefully it'll be with me on Thursday evening.
Oh the joys. I feel it's going to compliment my 16570 perfectly.
