Joe Thorton!

He got a bad rap in Boston, he's a tough player, he takes nights off for sure but when he wants to he can take over a game!

Yep, Thornton is one of the most naturally talented hockey players of the last two decades. His combination of size and skill is amazing. However, he has maybe 2-3 good seasons left and if he doesn't win a Cup he'll go down as one of those great players that could never get a ring. If you look at his stats, he is one of only 47 players in NHL history (!!!!!) to average over 1 point per page in his career. That is an amazing stat, and not easy to do.

It's hard to put my finger on it, I know he didn't get along with his Boston coaches and it's a shame he never truly blossomed in a BB uniform but there is something about him that just seems to hold him back. Like he's just not willing to go all in 110%? It's too bad cause as you say he's incredibly skilled and as big as a tree, he should have done more but who am I to judge, I'm 5'10" and slow

Some guys "like" to play and others "love" to play.....others just don't know how to empty the tank at the right time.

I remember and old Mark Messier story; he told a story one time about how he went into the Islander locker room after they had beat the Oilers in the Stanley Cup finals to offer some congratulations.....he said there were guys laying around the locker room half dead, beat up, almost comatose.

He said to himself, I feel pretty good, have plenty left in the tank and could play tomorrow, heck I could play another game right now.......He learned that when you get that close, leave everything on the ice.........that's why he was one of the better captains in all of sports......
