I was at my local watchmaker today and he always seems to have a few beauties stored away in his safe...I saw this 16800 about 2 months ago and wanted to take another look at it. Boy, it's perfect, the bracelet is mint with no stretch and the crown on the clasp is about 90%. The patina is magical and YES he does have the original hands tucked away.....Today was the best day to do this "open 6 day"

The Rootbeer is a 1675 with pointed crown guards and the nipple dial, the crown is nearly polished off the clasp, the but the watch is very clean.

I did not shoot any pics but he also just bought a 16600 that is well patina'd on both the wg surrounded hour markers and the pearl. The SD has box and papers and some nice fading and wear on the bezel insert.

Excuse the i-phone snaps, did the best I can, really thinking hard about the 16800 after missing the blue snowflake yesterday

He wears this watch most of the time and likes the lume of the new hands.

We laid the old hands out and they match very well, maybe one shade lighter than the hour markers and I looked at them with his loop and all the material is there on the hands with just slight cracking.

He's a funny guy, does like wearing a watch, mainly because he's at a watch bench all day and does not like watches, rings, bracelets, etc..He said so many customers gave him %$#@ that he stared wearing this 16800 when he could not sell it last year.

He actaully tries to not buy watches, not his real business, he a Rolex tech. But he says some people come in with prices quoted from Pawn Shops that are so bad he offers them a few hundred more and feels like he has still stolen the watch.

I wish I knew more about the RB 1675, that's where the money is and the 16600 was just awesome....the seller said the 166600 had been in a safe for the last 15 years and it looked like it....

The 16800 looks pretty nice, I do think it would look a lot better with matching hands though.

The root beer looks dodgy to me. That watch didn't come with pcg. Insert is fake, bracelet likewise. Case may be real but the pcgs are not correct, may be regular guards machined down. 24hr hand looks odd so my guess is pretty much all fake. Beware

I guess it could/should have the small GMT hand, but the hands could have been replaced at some point....

The link is correct stating pcg ended around 64-65. Not sure when root beer first released but pretty sure not that early. Like I said, the pcgs look a bit off to me compared to my 1960 gmt. The hands look off, not just replaced. Insert is definitely fake but easily replaced. I'd just be careful, make sure dates and serials match up etc.

Lug holes on the Tiger Eye (Rootbeer) looks a bit strange they are so big! At least that case has been polished too many times...
