Shooting Guns while wearing your Rolex...

I noticed from the various pictures/posts that there are many gun owners. I also know there are many anti-gun folks as well, so I will try to keep this post more related to Rolex's as opposed to guns.
So, for you gun owners.. when you are at the range, do you wear your Rolex while you shoot? Lately, I've been using my .22LR handguns, and I certainly don't worry about my Sea Dweller while using these relatively low power/light recoil type of handguns. However, I'm wondering if I need to be more cautious if using a bigger caliber, say .357 or .44 mag. Is there any possibility of the shock/recoil from shooting these types of caliber causing any harm to my Rolex?

Dunno about either .357 or .44, but firing 9mm hasn't done either my SD or my Tudor chrono any harm.

Although, i'm ambidextrous, but I consider my left hand, where I wear my watch to be my weak hand. I have never had any problems with my watches while shooting .45, .38 Super and 9mm.

I haven't had any troubles with my Sub or Daytona while shooting (9mm or .40).

Never had any issues firing handguns with them, including .44 magnum. Hurt my wrist more after a long day of shooting .44 magnums!

9mm never an issue at all.

Know many who wear Rolex watches and spend all day shooting trap and skeet shotguns with no issues as well. And have a friend who wears a TT Blue sub and never cleans the sub and wears it on all his hunting expeditions while shooting a .375 H & H.

Gedanken, Where is that photo you used to post of you wearing your SD while shooting at the range?

I've worn mine while shooting Glock 19, Beretta M9, M4, M249 and 50 Cal. After my second tour (you know where) my watch was gaining 6 - 8 sec a day. I recently had it regulated and now it's gaining about 1 sec every other day.

Zack, OT, but from your profile two questions? Where are you currently stationed? and what type of Jeep do you have? Been looking at ordering one through AAFES here at Bagram AB.

Thanks for your service and hard work!

Factory or reloads for the 44?

I dont think it will be a problem to your watch.

Rolex movements are very durable. They can really stand the test of time so well.

I read an article before about how just clapping might damage the movement of the watch but I think thats all baloney.

I'm stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. I have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon SWB. I bought it in Texas November of last year. It's not really a good Autobahn vehicle, but that's what I have my bike for

What's OT?

Not at all. In over thirty years as a competitive shooter and instructor I've never had a problem. Anything from a .22lr to a 50. BMG.

Has anybody fired a Rocket Launcher while wearing their Rolex?

OT = Off Topic.

Rubicon seems the way to go for me as well. Now just have to decide on the color!

Directeng,

Just factory loads. Don't really do any handloading myself. Would like to try out some of the special handloads made though for it you can order through some custom ammo makers. Grizzly loads!

I shoot with mine on all the time. My preferred pistol is Kimber 45 ACP. I have not fired a rocket launcher, but I was the #2 man on a 12 lb Civil War cannon during live fire competition. The #2 man stands about 3 feet from the muzzle, and while the blast rattles every bone in your body it never affected my Rolex well hidden under my uniform.

OT - reply.

Years ago at the pistol club we invented a big bore match so that we could register 44's. We bought factory loads to reload (down not up ) for 'target' shooting and let unsuspecting members shoot the factory loads. It was fun to watch - jees were they hot and painful.
Wore a Sub in those days and didn't really think about it.

I am one of those Sporting Clays (similar to skeet) shooters who'll run through 500 shells on an active weekend. I also have been known to do a lot of pistol shooting, but not lately. None of this shooting seems to have affected either the Air King nor the Tudor Chronograph. I got the Blue Sub last Tuesday, and today is Saturday...I'll probably do at least a little shooting this weekend just to break it in!

Is it just me, or is their something really classy about a fine shotgun in the hands, a Rolex on the wrist, and a day of shooting clays!!

Kind of like the old Submariner Ad showing guys out hunting!

Big Caliber hand guns give you the most sudden shock because of the small mass to absorb the blast.

Shotguns/big bore rifles would be probably second although not a bunch since your watch hand is furthest from the butt where most of the shock is.

Rocket launchers (bazookas) don't have that much sudden shock. More of a hard pull.

Tanks knock the hell out of your body, but unless you bang the watch on something hard it's not bad.

Nukes just give you an under foot sudden roll.....Unless you're too close to ground Zero. However, it's the sudden electro-magnetic pulse that'll take out your cell phone, blackberry, and watch..

Fired many M16 rounds with my DJ on during my days in the Navy. Didn't bother it at all.

That big artillery may be fun, but unfortunately NSCA (National Sporting Clays Assn.) Rules forbid anything more powerful than 12 gauge 2-3/4 with 1-1/8 oz or less of 7-1/2 or smaller shot. Sometimes I wish I had a friggin' 105mm Howitzer loaded with a whole bag of 8 shot!

While on the range today I fired the M4, M9, M240, M249, one AT4 (pic above) and felt two shock waves from C4 detonations of over a dozen bricks each. One was a mile away the other was about 100 feet away but on the other side of a berm.

The biggest shock to the watch was the AT4 firing. The kick yanks your hand much more than a rifle. I thought I'd look at my watch to see it going backwards!

Here's a photo I shot today. Since my watch's key colors are silver, gold and green, I happened to look in a box and see silver stripper clips, gold ammo, and green tips on the rounds! So I had to toss my Rolex in to see how it would look. They made friends instantly. :-)
