Special Pics - WWII Related
So I was up in VA a few weeks back helping my dad move into his new home & the day before I left he said he had something special for me that he had held onto long enough & it was time for me to enjoy.
Now I knew one of my Grandfathers was a WWII Vet but I was unaware my dad's dad also served. Sadly, both of my grandfathers passed away many years ago, long before I was old enough to appreciate much less comprehend a discussion on war. Turns out not only did my grandfather enlist (Black Hawks 86th Infantry Division) in his early twenties for WWII but he also chronicled his entire service in a very detailed scrap book consisting of articles, maps, pictures & currency from his extensive travels in Europe & then on to the Pacific. This is an amazing collection of great historical importance... atleast to me. Anyway, it just now occurred to me that I had a treasure trove of great backgrounds for PAM pics. What follows is a small sample of what is found in the scrap book. My 312 is wearing a WWII Swedish Gustav Ammo Strap compliments of Paolo18. |

Some Japanese "Invasion Money" (as written on the back of the bills) behind the PAM. Strap is a WWII Swedish Ammo made from a pistol holster compliments of Stonee Straps.
He even saved a chow hall pass from his time in transit on ships. Glad my Grandfather had a bit of hoarder in him, lol. I found this particular news clipping pretty interesting since I was stationed on Guam in the late 90's during my time in the Air Force. Coincidentally, I was involved with recovery operations for KAL801 which was a Korean 747 commercial airliner that crashed on Nimitz Hill. Thanks for looking! |
