Tag Heuer

I was just wondering where you guys rank Tag Heuer on the list of fine watches? Considered high end, middle, low end or not at all?

Rankings are so arbitrary.

But I personally have yet to see one of their watches that really interests me.

However this is also true for a number of other brands as well.

I believe they rank one notch below Omega and Breitling but it's really about opinion

I have two Omegas, two Breitlings and three Tags. I never thought much about Tags until I finally got one and feel they are very nice pieces for the pricepoint. Probably not as great as Omega or Breitling, but close.

And all three (Aquagraph, Aquaracer 500, McQueen Monaco) keep COSC time out of the box despite not being COSC rated.

But in the end, buy what you like despite any rankings or whatever.

Cheers,

-Marc

JMHO but in the world of fine swiss time pieces I would say they are a notch above entry level. maybe on par with Oris and Hamilton, though my taste would bring me to an Oris or Hamilton before Tag. Hamilton's are cheaper then Tag and Oris is about the same so for me it just comes down to styling, I don't care for Tag's aesthetic.

I love TAG's. I don't really care what the rank is.

I agree. I just started to get into more expensive timepieces and was curious on how others viewed them. I own three now and will probably own more in the future, once I get a few more Rolex's and others. Thanks TRF!

In Australia in the 90s they became quite popular and distinctive especially with the unique two tone link bracelet. This is what attracted me to buying my first swiss made watch a TT Tag Heuer SEL Chronograph, all be it quartz (I know, I know, I was young and foolish). In 1992 I paid a hefty $3200 for it which was 6 weeks salary for me then. Even though I do not wear it these days, I would not sell it due to sentimental reasons.

TAG continues to be stocked in Australia by 'general jewellery' chain stores, which is not the case for Omega, Breitling, Rolex, etc, anymore. This combined with the fact they are positioned at a lower price point, makes Tag more accessible and less 'exclusive', so I think this reflects TAGs target market.

As an FYI, TAG was the highest volume selling swiss watch in Australia in 2010/2011, which makes it a popular watch brand.

Even though I still do like the look and feel of TAGs, I much prefer brands like Rolex, PP, VC, JLC, AP these days.

Your personal preference IMO always takes precedence over any ranking applied by others.

.

And thats why some people here in Australia say " Oh, you have a Rolex, I have a TAG" and they whip out their quartz watch which cost them 1k+ . I think if you're going to spend money on a TAg, might as well spend a bit more and get an Omega.

I never thought much of Tag and my respect went even lower with their "inhouse" 1887 movement debacle, where even the CEO had to go onto WUS to defend his company.

IMHO Seiko>>>> Tag Heuer, at least they don't pretend to be luxury items, and when they do it, its perfect(Grand Seiko)

Vintage Heuer though is

As a TH owner i rank them at a few notch's above entry level for the most part, the comparisons made with Oris and Hamilton are unfair as price wise, quality wise, compilcation wise, icon piece wise, innovation wise they are a mile ahead of those brands and in the case of the Monaco V4 ahead of 99% of the watch industry period! Make no mistake TH could if they wanted to make progress up the ladder if they really wanted it but they never will as a whole as they are dominant in the sector they are in and the slight stigma they have would take years to shift if they ever were to compete side by side with Rolex, Omega etc.

these topics are always a matter of personal preference but you will struggle to persuade me that my Monaco is an inferior product.

As with any brand it's up to the wearer, I have a Tag Aquaracer 500 and I loved it. Recently just picked up a Hamilton and was pleasantly surprise how great it looked and the craftsmanship for the price, might purchased another one. So like I said it's up to the owner.

x2. I wore a Tag Aquaracer for many years before buying my first Rolex, and always considered it a "prestigious" watch - which it is compared to watches worn by more than 95% of the population.

I'd agree with the assessments of them being close to par or just under an omega and breitling. I've got a couple tags, love them, I wouldnt put them next to hamilton, just because of the pricepoint. There are 'entry level (used carefully as they are still a great watch and way above any typical entry level).' Tags, such as the F1 and lower Aquaracers, then can get pretty pricey with some of the links and monaco and then to the grand carreras and slrs. But, even the F1s are a rugged and quality watch and will treat you right. Tags been around a long time and you can still see people sporting 'classics' from decades ago.

Tag makes some really nice watches but personally i DO LIKE ONLY THE Monaco from the current setup.. I also like most of the vintage stuff they made back in the good old days.

I personally rank their models from the lower middle to middle spectrum as far as price is concerned. Just personal opinion based on a Tag "outlet" that I visited.

The Aquagraph is the one I really dig. If I ever run across a deal on one of these, I'm snapping it up.

Not a fan of any TAG/Heuer since 1995 and forward.

I would mind one of these old Super Professionals though

I agree,

TAGs are nice but not quite there. I collected all the formula 1 dial variations at one point ( before my vintage addiction ! )

Yes that all of them use ETA quartz(F1s). They have a good crystal, and solid build when it comes to the brushed steel etc.

I really don't care what other people think. When I buy a watch, I buy it because I like the look of it. I'm not into the crazy dials or watches that look like you're wearing a wall clock on your wrist. IMO Tags are very nice watches of course I wouldn't rank them with rolex, PP or VC. The problem with Tag Heuer is the resale value. I think that if you get a good deal on a Tag you're getting a really nice watch that will last for years. IMO the Tag Heuer Aquaracer is just as appealing as the submariner to me anyway. I have 3 Tags & I wear them on a regular basis.

My black Aquaracer WAF1110 is a quartz movement & I love it. I get compliments on it all the time. I'm a Tag Heuer fan..

Some very nice looking pieces. But, they sold themselves out and are literally everywhere. I like many of them, but I don't like them enough to wear them. To me, quality for sure, but way over played.

I have a love-hate feeling for this brand.

Love it for its nice looks and day beater durability.

Hate it for its price and resale value. And most probably accuracy of time keeping.

IMO, they are overpriced at their current brand status.

Their Carrera line has some good looking watches. Can't tell you anything about quality though.
