Rolex Gold Cost of Ownership compared to...

As I debate moving the entire collection and getting 1 WG DDII I was wondering if there is any difference in the Total Cost of Ownership with a Gold watch vs. SS?
Movement's Service cost should be the same correct?
Newer Bracelets shouldn't stretch and last as long as the SS versions? Could they last a lifetime?

Any thoughts or experiences are appreciated!

With proper care, there should be little to no ownership cost delta between full gold and steel.

Don't overthink this. Get what you enjoy. Nothing is permanent, not even your taste.

Actually, the service (through Rolex Service Center) will be more than service for a SS model. On average, I believe it is about $800 for DD, though I cannot speak for a DDII.

Will it last a lifetime? Well, anything could if taken care of properly. However, if you compare SS vs 18KT, SS will always win, especially Rolex SS. It is well known that Rolex uses a better grade of steel for their watches than other brands. white gold is white gold though. 18kt has about 75% pure gold and 25% alloys. What that means is that it is soft. It will scratch, it will get thinner over the years. So, the short answer is that SS will last longer vs the 18kt if worn exactly the same.

DDs are more because of the added complications, not the metal they are made of. A SS Daytona is $800+ Services on all gold models arent more to service. Take good care of it and it will last a LONG time.

And just got my YG President . . . finally . . .

I do servicing at an Independent Watchmaker . . . . around $ 250.00 . . . without extra's . . . ;-)

Insurance shouldn't be much more, if you are comparing to a collection of other watches with equal value...

You should get what you want, but to answer your question, the cost of owning the gold watch will be greater than ss if your taste or circumstances change and you decide to sell it. The gold models depreciate more than ss models if you buy new.
