Basel 2012 model tour at rue de Rennes boutique
For the third year in a row, I stopped by the rue de Rennes boutique to check out the new models tour.
Before you ask, I asked to take pix, and was politely declined, but was offered a shiny catalogue of the new models. I tried to explain how much better the models look in real life so I'd like some pix, but they was once agin offered the catalogue. Hey, I tried! Some quick impressions... The big surprise: SkyDweller. Okay, it's faced some harsh criticism here on TRF, but, the WG model really impressed me. Much, MUCH better looking in the metal, and the functionality of the bezel is awesome. FWIW, it's heavy as h*ll, in a good way. The YG and chocolate models? Well, not to my taste, to put it kindly. Interesting (to me) fact: new smooth bezel DJII will have all the dials of the currently available DJII. The new silver sunray dial is quite striking. New SubC ND? Very nice. I like. Disappointment: blue face YM. Something about the light platinum bezel and dark blue face just didn't work for me in the flesh. I was really hoping to like this one. And, last but not least, I tried on the GV again. Me like! |

They had the Arabic dial version on display. Think that particular dial looks better with the fluted bezel, but, cool to see. |

Thanks for the write up Cru! I see you still like the GV, however, I hope you get to try the 116610 very soon! Speaking about the WG Sky Dweller I am beginning to have dreams about that reference

Don't get me wrong, the blue with the hints of red is very nice. It's just that the dark blue dial comes across as too small in the middle of the large and light and matte bezel. In the next case over they had the DJII dark blue dial with sticks and fluted bezel and, too me, the blue sunray looks better and more balanced there. |

Great pic, Sam. The WG SkyD is mighty fine....so much presence with the extra touch of a real complication executed beautifully in its simplicity of use for the owner. I'm now officially a fan (of the WG one, that is). And the sales lady told me to wait to see the Hulk, as she thought it would look great on me. I hope they get one in soon to check out, because I already know the GV is a beauty on me and for me. |

Thanks for the update.
I for one am looking forward to the new no-date Sub. I'll reserve my judgement until I can see it in person, but it looks very clean and nice to me. |

x2. Thinking 216570 is likely my next watch, but need to see new ND Sub and new DJ II smooth-bezel first.

Sky dweller wrist shot looks cool, the color of the inner 24 hour ring seems off to me. I will wait to see it in person before I judge However.

With the Black Bay Tudor is going in a direction that Rolex should have went a while back. Refreshing the great vintages they have and introducing them in limited numbers.
Who would not want a refreshed vintage Daytona, Sub or GMT? Thanks for the pictures

Cru, any additional information about the new ND Sub? I know its upgraded to Parachrom hairspring, ceramic, maxi case, but I think they left out the shock absorption upgrades, etc. Anything your recollect about comments on that model? Thank you.
(I can't believe I am asking a question like that...that's what a year on TRF will do to you!!).

Now seeing the Skydweller on the wrist its not my cup of tea, even if it was at a reasonable price looks very strange, dial looks off balanced.
