Are there many fake boxes?
OK...I am a total Rolex newbie...so please don't make me feel too dumb. You all are amazing sleuthing out the fakes from the authenic. I have been reading about all the detailed FAKE Rolex watches out there. Do the counterfeiters spend time making realistic fake boxes too? I know they make fake ones, but just how far do they go? I have some Rolex boxes that came from an estate sale. Is there anyplace here or anywhere where I can post photos of them to find out if they are authenic or not?

Lots of them! The fakes are worthless as an investment (that is, no resale value at all), but functionally, they are as good as the genuine article for holding your watch, storing your rolex booklets and tags, and, generally, taking up usable space in your dresser/desk drawer. That noted, I have a few boxes in the small collection, too!

I have seen online that this box can be reproduced....it has papers and a little plastic ring. Can you tell if this one is real or fake? I can send more pics.

More Real or Fake?
Here are the other two boxes that I have....Real or Fake? The outer map box looks real because it is sort of torn, but I didn't know if that was the kind of box that is supposed to be inside it. Any ideas or details to look for? I can post more pics if you would like.

Check out this site, there should be codes on the bottom of the box and while I'm sure that codes could be copied, maybe the fakers are not that smart.....I don't really know...

I need better pics of your 1st box to give a verdict, but it appears the papers inside are fake. The 2nd pic showing 2 boxes(brown and red) are real Rolex.

Here are some closeups on the first box. How do you tell? I am sure this guy will bring in more stuff for us to look at. I have found many fake green boxes on the web, but I don't know how to tell what's up with the certificates. What about the stamp on the back? Do the fakes usually have 1 number or do they mix it up?

Sorry, both the box and papers are fake. To tell the difference between fake and real always look at the fine details(this applies to watches, boxes, papers) the fakers never go to the trouble of making perfect copies as they want to fool the novice buyer not the experts.

They do make the newer fake cards - HOWEVER they are not stamped properly or printed properly - thats how you can tell (and the serial number on the card will not match the watch itself).
As for fake boxes, the tell tale sign is that the real rolex look smooth as silk in terms of material, but the fake look like shag carpeting (its a thicker material). So yes, its all fake in what you posted. The older style papers (correct if im wrong) were never shiny. And the box you have does not correlate with the old papers you posted. |

No problemo! There are convincing fakes out there, but as long as you keep updated and educated you won't be taken. As one of the posters said above - all in the details. If the hang tag doesnt match the outter box serial or the watch or the card, jigs up!!

Thanks again. I gave the fake box to my little girl to play with, and gave the real ones to a friend of mine who has a flea market....then she put them on Ebay...go figure. If you are interested, let me know, and I will send you the links.
