Do I go for a second Rolex?

I currently own a SubC (LN) and I am thinking of getting an Explorer II 42 White face as I love the rugged clean looks and think it will complement my black face Sub.
However as the Sub is my only watch, I am going through those doubts that I'm sure many of you have had when considering going for another watch to your one and only?
Wondering if I may regret having two? I am being greedy? Can I justify it? etc.
Sure some of you can relate to this. I am not really a watch collector, but my heart is drawn to the new polar Exp, but my head is telling me something different.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I would never regret having two great, but different watches, especially Rolex

Although as wokafu just said if its ok with the wife & wallet Then go for it.
Alternatively if you regret the Exp then flipping it will not be a problem IMO

Your doubts should tell you that you're probably not ready to purchase just yet, at least with this particular model anyway.

With you there...

I understand your situation quite well.
I now have a SubC, a Exp II and a DSSD, and I want to reduce to two watches, keeping the SubC no matter what.
In a sense, I going in an opposite direction, meeting you halfway, at the two-watch intersection.
The wife, of course, doesn't see the point of having two watches, but it good for my balance.
I've asked for suggestions on the way to go in another thread and had very good ideas.
Two watches makes sense. You don't get bored too quickly, you're not limited to a single one and you get to have two very different babies.
I'm currently in the market to trade my Exp II for a planet Ocean 8500 and sell the DSSD for $$$. An alternative would be to sell the Exp II for $$$ and exchange the DSSD for a new GMTc or (if someone has one) a JLC Master Compressor Navy Seals.
The idea is two watches, equally wearable in all circumstances, but with enough differences.
Good hunting! I know it's not easy...

Entirely a wallet based decision, IMHO. No shame in using funds to invest first, and then buying toys from the resulting income.

Start building a rotation.

You will come to appreciate having more than one watch for various moods, days, occasions.

Now the tough part, what to get

It is a slippery slope, ending only in intense therapy or financial ruin.

It's hard to own just one. Enjoy the hobby.

the best advice is leave the forum if you want to avoid temptation. The more you look, see and talk about watches the more likely you are to buy more. Which as most suggest if they can be funded then enjoy, if you are happy with one watch stay there as well. As I have got older and work harder (i.e. > 40, married and no kids planned) watches have become an easy outlet and following the TRF at night as I am doing now is becoming a hobby. While watches don't routinely go up in value they are a safer and potentially healthier hobby than car racing or climbing mountains. Ultimately none of us need more than one watch, with my i-phone I probably don't even need one, so it comes down to how you want to allocate your funds.

A two watch rotation is ideal imo, especially when service time comes up.

The Sub C LN and Explorer II are a perfect match ! Don't know if you can justify it, but don't think you'll regret it.

Honestly you don't seem like you really want to.

The only reason I would think you would want another watch (you say you're not a collector) is if you needed it for a certain occasion.

If you were to get a second watch I think you need a dress watch. Something that would go in a suit.

x2!

Just to say, I alternate between two watches (mostly) and I am happy to also alternate brands. But, if the Explorer II is "the one", go for it.

Having not read the OP's post, I'll just say: Assuming it's not a financial strain, yes.

you need two minimum. One you absolutely love, the other you absolutely must have.

Good point Mark. Will certainly overcome the problem of not having a nice watch when service time arrives. Glad you feel the two would be a good match.

It's just parting with the cash is the hard part. I hardly ever where a suit, so a sports/tool watch appeals more than a dressier watch.

Sounds like the start of a beautiful flipping, trading, buying, selling obsession - all roads lead to ruinous Rolex relationships and co-dependence.

I'd say go for it, your idea makes perfect sense to us! Then when you see something else you like, start the flipping machine...

Like the song says (Children of Piraeus)
...How much I’d love to have
One, two, three and four Rolex, proud and fine
......And when one day they gain in value
.....They’ll be in demand and collectible
.......For this precious port of mine (the port of Piraeus)..:

Those of you that know this song - please forgive my slight word alteration.

Everyone with one watch, raise your hands!
Now everyone with more than one watch, raise your hands.
Majority rules, get the ExpII.

I would get the explorer, the two make perfect companions. Difference in dial colour, ones a diver and the other for travelling.

Sounds like a similar decision that I made, except I have a GMTIIc and I went for the previous generation ExpII with white dial, it's about half the price and I like the smaller size/proportions better, but your choices would also be a great combo. I use the GMTIIc as my dress watch and the ExpII as my rough and tumble watch.
