Help with my "new" Datejust 16030
I just bought a Datejust 16030 on eBay from the original owner, who bought the watch new in 1983. It's my 2nd Rolex this year (yes, apparently I've acquired the disease, thanks in part to some of you and this forum). It appears to be a beautiful watch, but I do have a few questions, and I hope some of you will be kind enough to help me.
* The watch was serviced by a jeweler in December of last year. See photo. I think I will call them for more info. What should I ask? * I think the dial is silver, but I'm not sure. It almost looks champagne colored in some light. But I don't believe anything like that was an option, so this pretty much has to be silver, correct? * The watch has lost about 2 seconds in 18 hours, so it seems to be in spec. * The crown only screws out about a quarter of a turn before it pops out, whereas my Sub is about three full turns. Should I be concerned about this? * Should I have watch pressure tested, what can I expect to pay, and do you have any recommendations on who can do this? * I'd like to swap the bezel for a smooth one. Where can I get one and do you have any recommendations on who can do this? I know that's a lot, but I'm a newbie and I know just enough to be dangerous at this point. I really appreciate any input you can provide. |

Congratulations
I think the dial is champaign or otherwise it was silver and has discolored. A pressure test is more of a luxury than nessecary, as I don;t see you swimming with that watch, right..... Since you are in TX, plan a trip to RSC Dallas and maybe have them swap the bezel and dial if you wish.... |

Are all jubilee bracelets adjustable?

Thanks azguy. Is it possible to just walk into the RSC? Do you just drop off and they mail back, or how does that work?

Nice 16030! Congrats!
The dial is silver, but can take a champagne hue depending upon light. I have two similar dials. The crown should turn at least two full turns. Possibly the tube and crown was not changed at service. Pressure test: Very good idea! Any watchmaker should be able to do it within a couple of minutes for a small cost. It is possible to replace the bezel with a smooth, from ref 16000, but I would be surprised if an RSC would do this. Best, A |

Anders is correct..
The Silver dials have a warm (tan) hue to them, and this makes them very easy to read in dim light.. The Rhodium dials are actually silver (chrome) in color and are very hard to see...

Last question...
in case anyone else sees this thread. I'd never attempted to set a quickset before, tried several times, and couldn't get it to work. Turns out, I'm an idiot. It's COUNTERCLOCKWISE not clockwise. Any chance I might have damaged anything in turning it clockwise in that position? The quickset works and it advanced automatically last night, at midnight I assume.
Thanks again for everyone's help. This forum rules. |
