Fakes on Ebay: what's the end game?
Doesn't Paypal protect buyers who end up with fake watches? I know when I've sold things on Ebay they've made me wait nearly 3 weeks after delivery for the funds to go to my account. Don't most people take their new watch to an AD and have it authenticated/pressure tested/appraised?
I am asking now because I'm considering buying an Omega on the 'bay from someone with very little feedback. Eh? |

Why would you do that?

Also are they the only photos he has provided? If so, you going to trust a seller who has little feedback and gives you great pics of the un-stamped warranty cards but not the watch itself?

It has a starting bid of $1900. If I can get it for $2K, that's a savings of at least $500 compared to others I've seen posted. And I have experience with ebay - I have no idea how to resolve an issue when dealing with a bank wire, which is the preferred method of payment I've seen on the forums. I've emailed with him and he's sent me pictures of the watch with today's yahoo home page - so I know they're not someone else's pictures.
Here are the other photos posted: I'm not committed to buying this one, and it's not "too good to pass up" but besides not having ebay feedback, I don't think the red flags are insurmountable. Especially going back to that Paypal/Amex protection I alluded to in the opening. |

In theory you are protected by Paypal.
It works well. You might lose the shipping fees both ways! Do you think the risks and trouble are worth $500? |

Those are just pictures. You have no way to know if those pictures are what the seller is going to ship to you or not.... Buy the seller, not so much the photos, although some are clearly fakes..

I expected to see Yahoo's home page in the background of the pics.
The pics do not prove the seller actually has possession of the offered watch.

Paypal usually favors the buyers. Sellers get screwed more often than not with the system.
If you pay by paypal, youre pretty much golden unless you send ECHECK or GIFT. Ive had a couple disputes over fake garbage ive been sent. No problems at all. If you charge back on your CC, paypal puts the sellers account in negative and goes after them. Its sad but thats why I dont trust paypal as scams from BUYERS and not sellers are starting to become more visible. |
