Another AD story

As some of you know I am toying over a new LV Sub and the Ceramic GMT. Well I was back at the AD yesterday and noticed the Rolex clock on the wall. I asked about it and the guy kinda laughed. He said that they had several clocks from several brands, and Rolex came in and gave them the choice of taking down the Rolex clock down or all of the others!!

Ive seen the Rolex clock at all the ADs that Ive been too.

Some of them are even hanging outside of the store.

I saw a really nice wall clock that had a fluted bezel on it and I

asked the salesperson if it they had one they could sell. Sadly,

they were not to be sold to costumers.

I've seen a couple of Rolex clocks (most notably an Explorer II clock) on ebay before but I have never trusted that website enough to buy from there.

Yes, they pop up on eBay often and usually go for $200-300 and more. BTW, I've bought and sold several thousand dollars of items there over the past eight years with very few problems.

Hmm. It doesn't say "Swiss Made" at the bottom. Wonder if it's a fake!

You can sometimes buy the Rolex clocks from eBay, but most of them are not genuine (like the rest of the junk sold there).

Hi Bo,

"but most of them are not genuine (like the rest of the junk sold there)".
A very strange statement to make
Are you sure everything on Ebay is junk. I have purchased many many items on Ebay and have always been treated well by all the sellers I have dealt with. Many items are the same items that you buy retail (including Rolex watches) but without the mark ups. Choose carefully.

Found this one - he seems like a stand up guy.

I wonder if they are COSC
Nothing would look more stupid than a Rolex clock at an AD or airport that's off minutes every week.

He said that they had several clocks from several brands, and Rolex came in and gave them the choice of taking down the Rolex clock down or all of the others!!

I would have taken down the Rolex Clock, handed it to him, and said hit the door.

Yep, the same thing happened to an AD that I've done business with in the past, out in western Canada. Rolex is very protective of their branding.

That's plain stupid imo, means they see themselves on another level than all other brands?
If an AD would only sell Rolex there would not be any left!
I wonder if they can do that legally? probably they can but ...

It is sad, and again shows the draconian nature of RUSA. However, Omega has curtailed support for some dealers that have carried other brands Omega felt was not in keeping with the stature of their watches.
It can be a war zone for ADs.
