Sons birthday coming up

my sons birthday is coming up and i am thinking about buying him a watch i cant afford a rolex just wondering if you guys have ever heard on an invicta are they any good and will the gold wear real fast
here is the one i wanna get him

OK, first I think this should go on more general watch forums, rather than the Rolex specific one.

Second, I think your son may want a steel watch, and you should ask him about this before going gold.

Third, is that Invicta automatic? If it is, then fine, if not, then consider one that is. If you want to induct your son into horology, you should do so with something mechanical.

Fourth, I would like to suggest that you may find something from Marathon, Seiko, Hamilton, or another brand that is in your price range and is still a mechanical automatic watch. Invicta is known as a knock-off/homage brand, so I would suggest getting your son something that invites horologie but doesn't carry with it a stigma of being a knock-off/homage piece.

Depends on your son ultimately.

I don't know if we can answer this question but I can say that there's a dozen other watches I would rather have in this price range. Problem is most don't come in gold

Nothing inherently wrong with Invicta.. It's a century plus old Swiss name, purchased in the 1990's by a Hollywood company. They have quite a following with young enthusiasts..

They make fashion watches now, using parts from China, Japan and Switzerland. They do not make their own watches..

Some of them may have a Miyota, Seiko, or ETA movement.. It may be nice to do some research if you are concerned with that.. For only a few hundred bucks, they are, of course, plated to look gold. Expect the finish on an active young man's watch to take a beating over a few years..

The Seiko 5 (aka Fifty Five Fathoms) has gathered quite the cult following and for good reason. It's movement is in house and virtually the same base movement as what's found in Seiko automatics for 4 times the amount (Seiko Sumo). It's very well made, a bargain, and has great looks that pay homage to the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms.

If you have set your mind on Invicta and he likes the blue dial I suggest that the SS version will stand the test of time more than the gold plated one.

The gold plate is so thin that it will just not look right.

The SS version is available in the UK at the equivalent of approx $99 so that's great value at less than half the price of an Ipod.

The blue is nice. There's also a black dial/bezel combo.

Get the Gold Invicta for sure. But if you're gonna go for the silver/blue too I strongly suggest you get the Seiko SNZH53 for the blue stainless combo, maybe stash it for Christmas. It's a great watch that will last his lifetime if properly cared for. Plus it'll give him more variety and a different look and feel from another company.

At any rate, if he wears and appreciates the watches you've ultimately planted the seed for him to become a future watch enthusiast.

Invicta isn't a brand that appeals to serious enthusiasts (none I know, at least) but for a kid? Sure. I got an Invicta 8926 automatic (a blatant Sub homage) for my son when he was about 13, and much to my surprise it's still running strong 4 years later. Not a bad deal for about $85.

I'm planning to give him something a little better when he heads off to college, maybe a Longines Hydroconquest or similar.

The Invicta is a pretty great watch for the money! I've owned my 8926OB for 16 months and I still love every moment of wearing it. I have the Stainless Black Bezel/Dial.

As for Alpha watches, they aren't too bad. But you have to remember they are not great when it comes to water proof-ness. Most of the Invicta Pro Divers are water resistant to 200m (660ft). I have the Alpha GMT Red/Blue, which is pretty much a copy of the Rolex GMT II Pepsi.

Go for the Invicta.

If you want Invicta, you might take a look at the shopnbc site. If you are going to buy an inexpensive watch, I think you can do better going with quartz movements. IMO, you have a better chance of getting consistent quality with quartz when buying an inexpensive watch. If you buy low-price automatics, you should expect inconsistent quality and some loose tolerance parts, which make the quality a crapshoot. Invicta sells both.
