Tudor Submariner - Please Educate Me

Hi Folks,

With the purchase of my first Tudor, the Black Bay I have become very interested in vintage Tudor Subs and would really like to learn more about the different references etc.

Can you guys recommend any good info sources or give any first hand info r.e. the various Tudor Submariners, especially those with matte dials!

Any info is much appreciated

Congrats on your Black Bay!

Me and some buddies are gonna take a road trip up to Montreal at the end of the summer with the express purpose of snagging ourselves a bunch of BBs (well, and one Pelagos), so you've got us beat in that department.

As for vintage Tudor Subs, a nice blue 94110 Snowflake and 7928 Rose Dial ought to get you in the swing of things without breaking the bank:

Adam

Frogman4me references are very good ... That's where I started.

Theres a lot of junk out there. Took me bit of looking to stay clear of fakes/frankens ... the guys here were very helpful. Picked up my 9411 blue Snowflake Sub last month.

study as much as you can about them. read ebay auctions. print the tables with the expected movements and dials.

research serial number 737738 on google and study the flaws of the fake ones.

you should figure it out after a little while how to spot a good one versus a bad one.

i suggest buying one iwth no bracelet and a dammaged dial. you can get a band at a later date. just focus on getting a legit case and one that does not look too pristine

In the current market, 3-4k should get you a solid example blue 9411.

The provided level of material relevant to my interest is insufficient to meet my personal required needs, could you please post more pictures of that beautiful rose dial please

Thanks, that's what I was thinking... and hoping! :-)

I've been watching this one for a couple of days on ebay. Seller has good feedback and seems honest enough about condition etc.
At face value (with my somewhat limited knowledge at least) it looks a fairly decent bet at the right price and I'm tempted to make an offer here. I have to consider m 20% customs tax as well...

Am I missing anything glaringly obvious though?

One small alarm bell that rang for me was that teh date, under magnification, just doesn't look big enough, as is sometimes the case I've read with some dodgy aftermarket lenses etc...

What do you guys think?

I would assume the crystal is aftermarket - it does not have the right magnification.

The movement isn't decorated like some. And I'm a little hesitant on the caseback. But this is one of the earlier 94110 models.

It does have the older style Triplock crown and tube (good for collecting maybe not for diving 100 meters :) )

There was a rumor that there was a thread around for posting your Tudor Sub pics.

Any opportunity, here's mine. Great watches.
