I believe it was the Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton Bond era. I believe Connery was last true Rolex Bond and Pierce Brosnan was the first Omega Bond.
Although Timothy Dalton wore a Tag Heuer in The Living Daylights and then tried to usher the Rolex era back to Bond in Licensed to kill, the Tag is rarely mentioned as a Bond watch like Rolex and Omega (Omeega as Daniel Craig would say). |

Those are well known facts (that Bond wore Seikos, but never a Pulsar - a Seiko sub brand btw - in between Rolexs and Omegas).
Interesting enough, Ian Fleming (Bond's creator) wore a Rolex Explorer I 1016 himself (case # 596851) himself. This one, He was also known to be what we called a WIS today, owning many-many watches as many Fleming's photographs shows. But he owned only one Rolex in his whole life (the Explorer I). He moved and lived to Jamaica, where he had a beautifull house and wrote his very successfull books. A curious fact is that Fleming himself were a Commander of the Naval Inteligence of the Royal Navy. He even conceived a (never executed, code name "Operation Ruthless") plan to capture a Nazy Enigma machine. In his books about his most famous caracter, since the first book - "Cassino Royale" - he wrote that Bond would only wear and drink the best of the best, the finer things of life(Taittinger champagne, the finer tailored suits, tailored shirts, fast and expensive cars, shirtcuffs and London specially handmade shoes, including the best watch available, a Rolex, as Fleming rightly understood). Seiko were a cheap Japanese brand by that time (and I must say, I'm a big fan and collector of vintage and new Seiko auto models, I love the brand and know quite a bit about Seiko history. I own a couple of hundreds of great to superb pieces of this fantastic brand). I guess Fleming would never put a Seiko watch on Bond's wrist at that time. Some Bond caracters (mainly R. Moore) wore Seikos because of an aggressive-and successfull- marketing campaigne, paid and supplied by Seiko Corp). BTW, Bond never wore any Pulsar (a Seiko sub brand) in any movie. I'm not aware of Bond using any Breitling (but could be, it's just I have never heard or read about any Breitling ia a Bond movie). So, ROLEX is the brand Bond's was originally intended to use. Not even Omegas. |

I'm not surprised at Mr. Moore's watches, most of the 70's were ugly...
