Would this concern / bother you?
I noticed this small asymmetry in the bracelet-to-case connection. I'm sure this will be a relatively minor thing as the watch ages, but since it's only a week old do you think it’s worth showing to folks at the boutique?

Although I would have probably never noticed that, I just took a look at my AP Dual time and it's in perfect shape, if it's easy to go to your local AD, why not, if it bothers you.

That wouldn't bother me in the least, I probably wouldn't even notice. I can barely even see what you guys are talking about anyway:)

Yes it would! I bought a Mercedes once and there was a small hole in the paint. Car was returned. It's the fact that a superior product shouldn't be subpar!

I would let them know and see what they want to do about it. In a mid level watch it might be acceptable but paying the price tag for an AP if you're not happy it should at least be addressed.

Kilyung, what exactly are the "plots"? If you're fairly sure they are the problem, I'll mention them so I sound like I know what I'm talking about. Maybe they'll be more likely to handle it and handle it carefully if they think I know what's up.

Yes, I would have a discussion with my AD.

Can that not just be a function of how the watch is sitting? It's pretty minor and may never be perfect. What about lighting?

I figured I'd take it to the AP boutique, which is only about half a mile from where I live. The AD I got it from isn't local. I figured since it's under warranty (only a week old), the boutique should support even if I didn't buy it there, right?

In all honesty it wouldn't bother me that much but given the prices of AP's and how the company takes care of its timepieces I think it would be worth it to at least tell the AD about it.

Wouldn't bother me at all if my brand new AP ROO wa on a bracelet and that was the only thing I found wrong with it. It's not how it wears so IMHO no need to worry how the bracelet flexes backwards. Yes they are stupid expensive but IMO a little picky.

Yes it would especially if the watch is BNIB.
Also fyi, I checked my 15400 and all 4 corners are flush, bracelet to case. Good luck! |

Interested to see what AP will come back with. I really do hope it isn't something along the lines of "it's within spec"

Take it in and see what they'll do to make it right.
The plots are the small links connecting the bracelet to the lug. I'm interested to hear how AP will deal with something like this.

Will it just be the position that the watch is sitting? Would take a look at my Dual Time when I got home.

Mine stays perfectly flush. Bring it to a boutique and see what they say.

Boutique basically said it's within spec -- i.e., it's the "handmade made nature" of the bracelet. They thought the screw connecting the bracelet to the case might be a little bent but it wasn't. My top link just articulates more than the others do. And one can't change that one link or its plots (since no screws to separate from rest of bracelet), so I'd have to change the whole bracelet. Evidently, they felt I'm being picky.

I don't consider myself uppity, but that kind of attitude, especially dealing with items that demand such a premium, is unacceptable in an AD.
The "handmade nature" isn't an excuse for any lack of quality; I would ask them to examine the bracelets of the watches on hand... I'm willing to bet there are none others with such an imperfection, however small. From what I understand, literally EVERY single part, screws and all, are heavily inspected to prevent just this kind of issue. APs are what they are due to impeccable quality and tolerances, they're special because they can pull that off WHILE BEING HANDMADE. To say that 'they're handmade, there will be flaws' undermines the company as a whole. Summary: Speak to someone else at the boutique, or find another AD, because that's not the attitude anyone representing such a brand should have. |

If it still bothers you then I would escalate by sending an email to the hierarchy of AP and complain. Several years ago I had a similar scenario/issue with my Omega and after being given the runaround, sent an email to the late Nicholas Hayek, lo and behold, within 48hrs I was presented with a replacement watch with all the apologies of the boutique manager.

I despise the "it's within spec" answer. Especialy within the price range.

It looks like AP is going to address it! Just waiting to see how -- they're going to get back to me.
As always, thanks for your thoughts and guidance! |
