SS Daytona is still VERY hard to get from most ADs...

Don't understand why some OPs here saying that Daytona is not difficult to get at all from ADs but at least it is NOT the case in Northern California.....

Here is my personal experience in last few months.... I have been 7 ADs (4 ADs in SF, San Ramon, Concord, Milpitas etc).

None of the stores got Daytona in display or in the back (Only 2 tone, RG and WG in one or other store) and I was told SS are hardly come by.

However, 2 of the 7 ADs I have been to got 116610LV Green Sub on display and ready to sell for list price + tax.

For 116710, 116610 and 216570 are always availabe on display in one or other stores.

Based on my personal experience from above . SS Daytona is still very hard to get (Already got one from the TRUSTED seller here ) and the next hard to get is 116610LV..

Have you guys expereienced the same in your area?

There are definitely regional issues. In central and northern Florida, daytonas are sitting in store windows. However, nobody is discounting.

Nope. I've been seeing them a lot. I know some AD do still keep them in the back and if your just walking in off the street they might not tell you if ask.

That's a good way to lose business.

Just AD game playing. So funny, as some still say "we have a wait list of years"

It's all some fun game playing they do, and try keep keep price high. Which hey, if they can get it, go for it.

If you walk in with cash or ready to buy, mysteriously they have one "that just came in".

I bought the white. My dealer has a black now.

I could not believe she had one of each in stock.

I could order 5 a month from 2 AD's I know well, for the foreseeable future.. At a discount as well...
Some AD's may be only showing them to exclusive clients or giving the call to preferred people before it hits the showroom floor.

In reality, they are not hard to get anymore. My AD has more trouble getting me an LVc than a Daytona!

As Chris had mentioned, it's still a regional thing. Most AD's will not have it on display; you need to be a repeat customer, blah, blah, blah.

If interested, this is the place to get 'em.

SS Daytonas are NOT plentiful in Vegas, NYC and DC. I know that from personal experience. It is definitely a regional thing. In areas where they still sell a lot of luxury watches and the economy is somewhat healthy it stands to reason that Daytonas might be harder to obtain. Rolex still restricts the ADs to a couple Daytonas each year I'm told, one white dial and one black. And that was not from an AD trying to sell me one because I had mine on at the time. The best bet is to get one from TRF. DavidSW is The Man!

Both of my local ADs had one in stock over the past 2 months here in RI. I was shocked when I saw the first one in the case in their showroom, Then at Ross Simons, My guy had to pull me in the back and take it out of the safe to show me. he said they weren't just showing anyone. The sad thing is I don't really like the White SS Daytona and both of them were white. If one of them was a black one, I would have been starting an incoming thread :-)

Not plentiful in Melbourne, Australia, haven't seen one in an AD display ever ... but was in Auckland, New Zealand two weeks ago and randomly walked into 2 AD's within 200m of each other, and both had a SS white dial Daytona sitting in a display case. Price was RRP NZD$17100 = NZD$14869 tax free = USD$12110, pretty good for this part of the world!

I was told by AD in Austin Texas any Daytona overnight. That said sellers here or grey market is 3 to 4 days. Why wait just to buy from your local AD?

I been to most of the dealers above and it's hit or miss.
They might not have had one in stick when you went but if may some other time. One of them you listed typically just outs it out in the showcase when they have it in stock, I had to do a double take look as I never seen them in a showroom case before.

This weekend my AD in the DC area had a black and a white, both in the safe. He said they get about 4 to 6 a year, generally they are sold before they get them. I got the white and am very happy. And yes, I am a regular customer but I don't think that had anything to do with it. My dealer said much of his current volume is from the Asian tourist market and there is a huge demand for thin watches, such as the JLC's, Langes and Pateks.

pretty sure that if you have the cash they may be able to make one suddenly appear from a store room, never seen one in an AD window but then that would spoil the enigma wouldn't it !!!

if you're carrying a wedge i reckon you'll score

I keep hearing of AD's that save their Daytonas in back for their special customers and I call BS. Its a completely counterintuitive business they're running. If they have inventory that can sell the minute they open the door, they're selling it... Not hiding it in the back so they can close out the register with a goose egg... just in case one of their well known customers decides they want a Daytona. You don't need to run a business to know that.

If Daytonas are so readily available at AD's with an unlimited supply ready to ship from RUSA, AD's wouldn't be hoarding them in safes. They'd be selling the crap out of them

I am with you. Silly, silly, silly.

That said, I was in a Turdneau once. Asked if they had a Daytona in stock. The sales guy told me no...but even if they did, they would have to save it for a "VIP." Needless to say, I have not / nor will I ever buy a watch at Turdneau.

Pretty weird business model if you ask me. If they are that popular and with the difficulty that exists with getting a decent discount on Rolex SS models, what is the purpose of making it difficult to obtain a SS for those Rolex fans that want it. I mean c'mon, they mind as well start limiting how many subs their dealers get also...and then , heck lets limit the availability on GMT's. Maybe soon, they wont be selling any watches.

Very hard to find in Southern Cali.. Also impossible to find in Vegas. I agree that the Ads dont have them hiding under the desk for special customers. These watches trickle in sporadically and they are sold within days.

I have no idea why AD's play this game. In my experience they are not near the top of most popular Rolex. The DJ, Sub and Explorer II all seem to sell more so maybe Rolex don't produce enough.

I bet a lot of people get pulled into the whole "they are very rare and hard to get" concept. I bet they get a lot of novice buyers with that old trick. I'd never fall for it. No matter how much I wanted a watch, if an AD tried to play games with me I'd be of to a grey dealer.
