French President Sarkozy - Rolex

I was watching "60 Minutes" tonight and they had a segment/interview with French President Nicolas Sarkozy. He looked to be wearing a pretty substantial watch, but I couldn't make out what it was. Here is a picture of him showing the bracelet/clasp of a watch and an article that talks about his love of nice watches and other fine things (to include Rolex, of course.)

Cool spotting. I wonder if there are any other current country leaders who sport a Rolex?

I remember when Clinton was in office he was criticized for wearing an expensive watch. Very soon after he sported a plastic casio or some such. I think I'd vote for a candidate with the balls to wear a Rolex (as long as they were a Dem that is.)

First female President-elect in Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has been seen wearing an all gold OP Lady DateJust. I don't have a better picture, but here she is wearing one.

You said UP so I assume you mean Canada. I know many people who live in Vancouver WA. Rolex enthusiasts who live there can buy in Portland and "export" them across the river to save the sales tax. In WA it that is about 9%.

Anyway, I don't get to BC much these days because my aircraft
type doesn't go international these days. I won't be flying up there again until 2010.

BTW thanks. I like the sentiment of "coexist"

I've looked for some articles about leaders and Rolex, but couldn't find anything really good. Here's an article about Russia's various leaders and their watches. It looks like Patek Philippe is the most popular there.

I like the new French Prez. Glad he won over that liberal anti-US French chick that was running against him. Best thing I liked about him winning, was how it pissed off all the liberal French I was visiting with in Cambodia at the time!! LOL LOL LOL

I actually am probably on of the few former US Military personnel that has the upmost of respect for the French. Like their culture and like the way they take care of their Citizens when they get in harms way overseas. Had a few ex-FFL members work for me in Iraq, all very loyal and hard core fighters.

Good to see the French Pres. has good taste in watches! (bet you he was not on the SS Daytona waiting list!! LOL LOL)

Well there is the pagan pentagram, the Buddhist Dharma wheel, and the Unitarian Chalice. That covers a lot of atheists.

Your avatar and comments seem to want to invoke conversation on a topic that we try to avoid here on TRF.

You can not have Religions co-exist, as your symbol states. As many of the Religions you post are on complete opposite sides of belief systems, right and wrong and morality. Also the idea that make a Religion a Religion, is the belief that, that belief is the one true way. Other wise it would not be a Religion. I do hope that there will be peace, but unfortunately many of the Religions you post are violently opposed to other Religions (espcially violent toward Christianity) as we see many perseuction and imprisonment of Christians in Islamic and Hindu nations. A good source to check out and read about Christian persecution is www.persecution.com

Now, how about changing you avatar to something not trying to make a political statement and lets gets back to talking about watches.

It is an idea that will not work and would go against many of the Religions posted. Reread what I posted. I would like to see Nations/Communities that persecute other Religions allow Religious Freedom. I have unfortunately lived in many nations that do not allow Religous Freedom and have worked with Christians in many nations that I have visited that have been severely persecuted for their faith (China, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Indonesia to name a few). If other can post positive opinions on the avatar, then I was well have right to post my objections to the ideal of co-existence. I did not start the comments. .

This excerpt from the article -- accessed via the link you provided -- is a bit much:

"...Mr Sarkozy is known to spend tens of thousands of pounds on large Breguét, Breitling and Rolex watches, which he ostentatiously wears over his shirt cuffs..."

Your turning this into something it's not. It's a simple avatar nothing more. One poster commented that he liked his avatar and all of a sudden this heading in a direction that I'm sure the owner of the avatar could not of predicted. Besides, if a subject, comment or other, does not jive with you, why not just report it and let the mods deal with, as they have requested in the past. The guy has a total of 31 posts and I just don't see the use in calling him out like that.

Now we know those shirts with the watch cuffs actually have a market. Scary!

Ever34, I have to respectfully disagree with you. The avatar is a direct political statement calling for complete opposite ends of the spectrum of values to embrace, which can not happen. I have said my peice and that is that. Cheers.

I think I may change it. Some people really like it some are offended. (Kind of hard to understand that one) But you're right that it provokes and probably doesn't serve the purpose of this forum. But before we leave this topic. The one thing ALL religions have in common is "The Golden Rule" They say it differently but it exists in all religions.

Now back to the original idea of the thread. He seems like a bit of a tool. I saw the piece on 60 minutes and he comes off as an arrogant, petulant, jerk. I'd say a one termer for sure. As for wearing his watches over his cuffs......I doubt anyone on this forum would be so lame. Still one has to consider the source (60 minutes). I like the show but the producers can make anyone look anyway they want.
