new mid-size oyster perpetual 177200

I think it looks clean, simple and elegant on a lady's wrist, better than a datejust IMO coz I don't like the cyclob. Rolex has redesigned a new series of mid-size OP this summer. I am surprised it is very hard to find them in the AD's case.

Yes,

Very nice.

This one was also posted recently, SS with WG romans and smooth bezel, very smart - might buy one like it for the boss.

Really? I have yet to see an AD in my area (california bay area) who carries a mid-size perpetual no-date with domed bezel. Some do have the old design with different bezel.

IMHO, the midsize looks much cooler on a female wrist (no matter what size wrist she has!) than a "Lady DJ", for instance.

I have never liked the looks of the ladies' Rolex watches in general.

Bo, you're a bad influence on me. I'm giving the bigger sized dials a second look... this may sound weird, but a man's vintage oyster perpetual might be the ticket - meaning REALLY vintage like 1930s or 40s era.

Sorry about that, Lisa!

Anyway, I absolutely agree with you! A vintage men's watch from that era would look stunning on a female wrist.

BTW: last month I saw a woman wearing a 5513. She was the skinny type, but boy did that Sub look cool on her!

She must have had quite a few links removed, but funnily enough you didn't think about that when you saw it on the wrist.

Bo...my wife agrees with you 100%. She loves her midsize, but will not wear her Lady DJ. I am getting her to look at the Lady YM for her next purchase. She is just starting to get the Rolex Flu and I even have her reading TRF. NEWS FLASH....TRF SAVES MARRIAGE!!!

Let me ask you guys something. You have to promise not to rub it in and say "I told you so." Ok, I'm really having second thoughts about this 26 mm datejust I just bought. The dial is SO hard to read, and I am starting to think a bigger size would just look cooler. I probably should have gone with the midsize. Hindsight is 20-20, I know. So here's my question: Can I take it back to my AD and order the bigger size? How much of a loss would I take since it is now a used watch? I bought the watch at 10 percent off retail. These are questions I could just as well ask my AD, but I don't yet have the nerve, and really need to be sure EXACTLY what I want before I order something else.

First of all: I TOLD you so!

Secondly, - for all it's worth - I had "buyer's remorse" over the SS Sub Date I bought late July this year, and I simply told my AD about this and asked if I could get the SD instead. This was after a MONTH of wearing the SS Sub Date. He told me that if the watch was LNIB, he would be willing to do it, AND give me 10 % off the SD like I got 10 % off the SS Sub Date. If there were "signs of wear" on the SS Sub Date, though, he would charge me a fee on the deal.

He would then send back the signed and dated CCC to Rolex to get a new CCC issued for the SS Sub Date, he told me. I guess he either sold my SS Sub Date as a "BNIB" watch or as a LNIB watch. I don't know, but I did get the deal!

They are in the business of making money and hopefully making you, the customer, happy. Tell them exactly what you stated above and found out what your trade in value will be. Also, you could place it for sale on this site using (guessing) 75% of msrp.

I guess the DJ is more expensive than the mid-size OP? So your AD will be less willing to do the exchange than Bo's case coz he'll need to refund you money.

edit: nevermind. I guess you want to exchange for the mid-size DJ.

Lisa, I agree with Bubba....talk to your AD first and see what your options are. If it doesn't look good, post it for sale on here and try timezone.com too. They have a sales corner.

If you have any reservations at all about your watch size and dial legibility, don't keep it and put more 'wear' on it. You'll be happier in the long run if you switch now. Good luck!

177200 Oyster Perpetual Mid-Size

Hi Peeps

Newbie and first post here.... be gentle with me.

Just been into the local AD, dropping off my gold mid-sized DJ which I absolutely adore, for a service and some link adjustment. Won't see it now until end Jan, beginning Feb. Have been reduced to wearing my SS 179174 DJ which seems tiny compared to the mid-sized.

Whilst at the AD, caught sight of the brand spanking new catalogue in which contained a fabby standard sized picture of a 177200, the one with the extra large 9 and 3 and the raised silver 6. I'm smitten with the silver dial, and have now asked the AD to order one so I can have a closer look at one in the flesh.

I've scoured the web and googled to within an inch of my life trying to find a picture that matches/or is larger than the one in the catalogue but to no avail.

Can help me in my quest for a large sized photo of this magnificant watch.

Thanks in advance.

Lisa - I have a mid-size YM and the size is just right. I hesitated buying the mid-size thinking it would be too big, but now I am ready to move up to the 40mm. By all means, go back to your AD and see if you can trade up to the mid-size. I am sure you will not be sorry.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'm getting up the nerve to see my AD tomorrow. Will at least know what my options are. I do want a datejust, but not so sure about the concentric dial - if reflects so much in all but the dimmest light. I have a datejust question that may be better answered on a new thread: Where can I get a complete list of all the dial options on the midsized datejust? Would an AD provide something I could pore over for a few days? Standing at the counter with a wiggling baby doesn't allow for much concentration.

Nice looking watch, i usually prefer engine turned bezel or fluted. I think the smooth bezel looks nice on this one however.

Lisa,

Good luck. I would be curious to see what happened in your situation.

I never liked the look of any of the ladies' Rolexes until I came across the Yachtmaster in 2000. I got the SS/Platinum women's YM (not the mid-sized), the one shown in my avatar, in early 2001, and love it. The size is very proportionate. My mother in law has the women's gold President datejust, and I think the face of that watch is too small. The women's YM is much bigger than that. The midsize YM would be too large on my wrist (I'm not a petite person, either).

Well, everyone, I took a deep breath and hied to my AD today. Had a heart-to-heart discussion about wanting a midsized dial, with a dial color that cut the glare. Want to keep the rose gold because I am a die-hard for it. We studied the catalogue and determined that if I have my heart set on Arabic numerals (and I really do), then I can get a 31mm rose gold TT with domed bezel and plain black face - no concentric. It would be lovely. HOWEVER, I'd have to choke up $2,600 more dollars after trading in my now used 26 mm (he would buy it back for $4,000 - $2,000 less than I paid for it 3 weeks ago). So, that's the news. I think I can learn to like my current watch for a while. Sigh.

Sorry to hear that Lisa! I know you're disappointed, but don't resign yourself to the fact that it won't happen. You can definitely do better by selling it privately! Try posting here in the sale area, and also try timezone.com's sales area. I've sold a couple there myself.

I can't say I'm surprised at the AD's offer. He'll turn around and sell yours as used for over $5k!

If yours has a retail of $6k, try selling for around $5100-$5400...better to lose a few hundred than $2k!!! Then you can order a new one WITH a discount of course

Good luck girl!

I think for smaller sized dials, smooth bezel looks better.

Karis, guess what. After my heart to heart talk with my AD I had a heart to heart talk with my husband - and he said not to sell my lady DJ, because it would be such a dollar loss. He's looking at it from an investment standpoint and figures in the long term it would be wise to hang on to it. His suggestion was to eventually get a used mid-size from a gray dealer. What a nice guy!

A great idea indeed! As long as you can still get enjoyment from wearing yours. Getting a used mid-size will definitely be easier on the wallet...an all stainless for everyday wear! Sounds good to me

If you think you can sell for higher then go for it.
Do not buy from that AD any more. Try else where who is willing give you better deal before and after purchased.
