Hello,

I have always wondered why is a Rolex more expensive than a Tudor even though they are made by the same establishment.

Is it merely a matter of branding and amazing marketing? Or is there a real quality gap that makes paying way more for a Rolex justifiable? - other than owning a well marketed brand.

My wild guess:
(1) Market segmentation
(2) A very distanted second, Rolex uses a higher class movement and material to construct the watch.

Do they use a different grade of steel to make the oysters and bracelets?

Hi.
Rolex's use in-house movements. Tudor (like alot of other watch manufacturers) use movements brought from ETA.

Rolex uses 904L steel, as they say, the only watch maker considers using it which guarantee the perfcet brilliance of their case.

No Problem.
I'm sure some of the more experienced members here will give you a list of other differences but I expect that this is obviously the main one. When you own a Rolex you know the movement is unique to that brand. Only a handful of manufactures can say that these days..... Seiko being one.

I believe they are part of the same company, as the Tudor website directs people to Rolex ADs and Rolex service centers...

What I meant is that Rolex does not make the parts for Tudor anymore. Tudor is still part of the Rolex Group and you can have them serviced via RSC and they are sold at AD's, though. But Tudor is otherwise manufacturing their movts. autonomously.

I bought a tudor for my wife about 10 years ago. She didnt like it and I returned it.

My memory is pretty rusty but I think the way it was explained to me was that one of the differences is that the tudor movement used less jewels (17?) than the Rolex but it was the same case.
I wish I could remember the details.
Maybe someone more knowledgable can confirm or deny this story.
