Do Coworkers and Friends question...

You as to why you would spend so much money on a watch, or always bring up in a group setting that you wear a Rolex? It really pi**** me off. I need new friends.

They ask because they are curious but never question why I spend so much money.

Yeah, it happens from time to time. One guy told me I was insane for spending that much on a watch. His hobby is drag cars! He spends thousands of dollars on a car to run it against a clock only to blow the motor up two or three times per year, but I am the one waisting money!!?????

It is like any other item that costs a little money. I have friends that spend $350.00 for a bottle of wine. I don't understand why as they don't understand why I have several Rolex watches. To each his/her own don't let it get to you.

As long as they arre not paying your bills they have no reason to comment on your spending habits. To each his own!

I'm only aware of two people in my office that know that I have a Rolex and they usually don't question me on it or mention it. Of course there's one guy who is always commenting about my clothes, my Nikon, my Montblanc pen or anything nice I have and I know he would say something if he knew I had a Rolex, so I have no intention of telling him. And his behavior may be part of the reason why most people in the office don't like him.

One of the partners here, doesn't ask about it, but does bring up the value of my watches at very odd times.
Not a Rolex but other nice pieces.

Yes they do, and usually they have the same reaction when I say "wifes cost much more, and if you divorce them it can cost you 2 arms and 2 legs, but we don't seem to care about that, right? I mean, look at Donald Trump for example, his ex has cost him millions of dollars, but he keep adding new ones to his collection".

Even though I only have an Omega now, it occassionally happens. My response is that with hard work and lack of a communist government to tell me how to spend my money, I decided to allocate money towards something that will last a lifetime, be able to hand it down to my son (when the time comes to having children) and indulge in something that many people don't know how to appreciate.

Then I ask how their BMW is doing.

I just borrow legends from the film world. I tell them that my Dad brough the watch back from Viet Nam in has ass, and that it is a piece of family legend....that its very existence and my dad's desire to get it back home makes it something that has to be worn often. Let them think whatever they want. I don't care. Mine is usually tucked under my suit and shirt so who sees it anyway for the most part other than me?

No, I'm quite happy with my work environment. When I first started my current job, our receptionist, a young lass with somewhat limited experience of the corporate world, mentioned that she knew next to nothing about men's clothing. I said, "You've just got to remember one word when it comes to suits - Brioni", at which point my boss' ears perked up and he said, "Hey, I've got six of those!". I'm the second-best dressed person in the office.

As for friends, the people I choose to make friends with are erudite enough to understand that everybody's got their loves, be it watches, food, wine or shoes, and have the largesse to accommodate things that they don't appreciate to the same degree.
