day date serial numbers

Hi EVERYONE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE. RECENTLY BOUGHT ROLEX DAY DATE, BUT CAN FIND NO SERIAL NOS. BETWEEN LUGS. THE WATCH IS CONFIRMED AS MADE OF GOLD AND STAMPED18 K AND 750 AT THE LUGS, AND THE LETTER A IS ALO STAMPED THERE.THE BRACELET IS ALSO GOLD AND STAMPED WITH ROLEX SA. THERE IS ALSO WHAT LOOKS LIKE A LADIES HEAD, AND THE NUMBERS 5385 ON THE CLASP.THE DIAL HAS THE WORDS T SWISS MADE T, BELOW THE SIX. ANY ADVICE MOST GRATEFUL.

It's not uncommon for the numbers to be faded/worn away on gold models, however cases with intact ref./ser. numbers are far more desirable.

Hi Andy you have few problems the band should say 8385 on the clasp maybe it's rubbed or just a typo. The dial is not original those are aftermarket diamonds. Lug numbers can rub on gold models, however they are then illegal to sell on technically for second hand dealers anyway, as it could be stolen.

Rubbed away numbers are a red flag for stolen property. If the offeror is excellent and certain the watch if not stolen, then it comes down to a full inspection when numbers have worn away. An AD is best place to start.

I paid the going rate for the watch,from jewellers shop, who assured me the watch was genuine. Was curious when i discovered no numbers between lugs. Thanks for advice.

not uncommon. (rubbered off #'s) saw a slow set date at the nawcc show
in houston with the same deal ( thanks for coming jP. nyny??)

your watch will have three stamps on the case frame, ( back side. )

purity scales
18k
swiss hall mark ( either a dog= st bernard or a woman=
helvetia)

both will be a side profile ( the swiss hall mark)

under the hallmark there will be a letter that relates to a city
in switerland

the letter relates to the city were it was made (assay office)

there will be the same hallmark on the case back>> inside and
also on the band blade (assuming the back is 30 something years old)

i have seen some case (very very FEW) missing the 18k stamp
but the purity scales and the hallmark will be there.

as for the band, look at the end pieces. theres a number in the face
it will be a CAST looking number>>>>>> NOT cut or engraved
the band in almost all examples will also have the swiss hallmark on the blade

what is the number and letter. ( the letter is VERY VERY small)
you will need a loupe. also use the loupe to look in the number
it will have a cast finish


all three swiss hallmarks will have a letter under the stamp (100%)

That and the missing hallmarks and model/serial numbers, crown sitting sideways, odd looking hands, etc. This watch looks very suspicious to me.

Had my watch looked at its 18kt sure enough , but has a eta 2834-2 movement.

Yep, looks like another "genuine" 18k fake (including the bracelet). Counterfeit, but using actual precious metal parts. I think these are becoming more prevalant with the influx of Chinese solid (yet inferior/impure) gold cases and bracelets. Hope you don't have any trouble getting your money back.
