It has been brought to my attention that someone is contacting WTB posts posing as myself.

He is using this email

[email protected]

In the message he says his name is David Williams from the UK and links feedback from TRF

Thanks for alerting the community David!!!

This just goes to show, never be complacent in any transaction until you know for sure with whom you're dealing with.....
Posting personal details (IE: phone numbers and personal Email addresses), is not a good idea in WTB adverts (or FS threads for that matter, unless you know how to protect yourself from scammers)...
Request PM's to be sent through the forum to ensure the person you are speaking with, is the person you thought!!! After reassurance, then move to personal email exchange if you please...

Always follow through with purchasing the seller/buyer, and never let your guard down!

Once again thanks for alerting Trf members to this David

There is a reason why zero tolerance is afforded to these types here. Always better safe than sorry.

Please be vigilant everyone.

Scammers have bags of charm and will always convince you they're anything but. Don't be fooled and more importantly always let us know of anything suspicious.

We do our best to ensure they're not allowed to operate here but there is no way we can ensure this at all. You must not rely on us but be cautious and assist

It's sickening and they deserve all that's coming to them.

This is the address the scammer is giving out once you decide to go through with the purchase

65 Joran Street
London
EC1Y 1AX
United Kingdom

They want you to send the funds via Western Union. In the email they may also ask to send the funds to this address

Carol Williams

City: Ikeja

State: Lagos

Zipcode: 23401

Country: Nigeria

Another scam email address: [email protected]

Please look at the email address when you get any WTB to ensure it is the correct seller contacting you

DO NOT USE WESTERN UNION

I am in Orlando, Florida not the UK or Africa

Yes, it seems the TRF For Sale postings have been singled out by the Nigerian Scam Brigade. I guess the old "you send me $10,000 and I will send you $1MM once I get the $30MM willed to me released by using your money for lawyers to file the necessary release documents" scam isn't working anymore.

Thanks for the update, David.

As to the scammers,TRFers' give 'em the

Great info David. A lot of this stuff coming out of Nigeria now. They also use a US or UK email address and IP to register here, which makes it (slightly) harder for us to spot them.

Can we please have your full support TRF in this. We are an exceptional watch community - undoubtably the best on the net - and by reporting any suspicious contact you may have we can stop any of this before someone loses out.

Be aware TRF members.

We have excellent sellers on here that have clearly built a fantastic reputation for themselves - and now these thieves and losers are attempting to use their credentials to scam. They will get what's coming to them...but in the meantime be vigilant - and for Pete's sake don't ever deal with anyone who is asking you to send money in the way David describes.

These guys prey on the WTB posts across the various forums across the internet and give a link to TRF when the buyer asks for references...

Again... Please be extra careful if you put a WTB post and get contacted by anyone

Very good information amongst all these posts. However, I wonder if anyone else finds it ironic that much of the concern is around the use of e-mail addresses, leading to sleddog raising the benefit of using PMs, yet almost all of the 'big' sellers on Rolex Forums list e-mail addresses in each of their sale posts? Perhaps, to increase the security for all members, the use of external e-mail addresses in sale posts should be banned, forcing use of the more secure PM system? Just a thought.

No doubt the PM method is more secure. I just reported a guy who was using it to "ask questions" which eventually led up to an offer to sell a Rolex. Thereby bypassing the entire For Sale or WTB sections.

Mods busted him, https://www.rolexforums.com/member.php?u=82697
Banned - so vigilance and reporting the scammers to Mods is a best practice.
