Ladies Datejust models

Hello, I'm starting to research a used Ladies Rolex Datejust to purchase, and there are so many different models. Can someone direct me on where to compare the different models? Is one more desirable or valuable than the other? Is it just a matter of when it was made? I see models 6917, 69163, 79163, etc. and don't know what the difference is between them. Thanks!!

Well the DJ 6917 started life around 1970 with the cal 2035 movement now these were in production till around 1983.After 1983 the DJ 69173 same basic model but the new cal 2135 movement which ran till around 1999.From 1999 on when 79163 was introduced with the cal 2235 movement model is now called the 179163 but same movement just a few cosmetic differences. So apart from the age and price difference slight changes to the movement and a few other cosmetic details they are basically all the same

The Ladies Datejust is a staple at the Country Clubs and Ladies luncheons..

One is no more valuable than another from a practical viewpoint as there isn't much of a used market for them. Every Lady should have two though.. one for sporty events to be worn with a tennis bracelet, and another with diamonds for special occassions..

Thank you for your replies. I've always admired my sister's Datejust, but didn't know much about them. Hers has a Jubilee band, but I like the Oyster band. For myself, I would consider this more of a "sporty" or "everyday use" type watch for work or luncheons - not formal occasions necessarily. I appreciate the answers; I have a lot to learn.

I think you should go Men's model with a bigger 36Mm or a 34m
Just looks better, I think the 31m and below is too small, cant even tell or realize it's really a rolex other than from the band.
And personally looks a bit cheap and tacky

the price difference isn't that much of a difference

Buy Nice or Buy twice !

Ridiculous.

But if you're looking at the ladies', at least consider the 31mm. Also a trad. feminine size but a little more modern.

I agree ( with everything haha). 31mm is a great size, can be work casual or dressy.

Were there any Turn-o-Graph / Thunderbird versions for the ladies (i.e. smaller than the std. 35mm)?

IMHO the Lady datejust 26mm looks best on women.

Very feminine.

I agree. The 26mm is still tough to beat. My sister has the 31mm Date and her friend has a 31mm DJ-- nice watches but, IMO, too obviously a miniature man's watch.

As to model differences, it's a little confusing, but the biggest things to consider are that quickset is an 80's upgrade and sapphire crystals, largely a 90's thing. Both of these upgrades are nice to have, and if you see a late 70's watch without them, the price should refect the differences.
