What would you do?
If you could get a watch that costs around $40,000 for 30% off (full warranty), or you could get a used one in mint condition for 40% off, but the used one had been serviced recently by the manufacturer to have a mechanical/chronometer issue fixed (9 months left on warranty), which would you pick?
It is around a $4000 difference in price between both. The used one can be picked up locally in person and the new one would be shipped by a prestigious dealer. |

I voted to the the used one. With 9 months of warranty left that should give you enough comfort that any problems would have been addressed by the service. And with the $4,000 savings, even if some does go wrong later on, its unlikely it service will cost more than your savings in getting the used watch.

The boutique for this brand is also only an hour from my house, so getting it fixed would not be difficult if something did I wrong... |

I will go for the used option. Main consideration is that condition is mint condition, and was just serviced by the manufacturer, and of course the savings is always good. One concern is that you mentioned is was serviced for a chronometer issue, not too sure exactly what happened there and so the problem may resurfaced later to "haunt" you.

Cheers

Likewise, how do I know there won't be a similar problem with the new one? Perhaps the used one has been vetted through any problems that a new one would have.... |

I'm guessing that if you have $40K to spend on a watch then $4K isn't a stretch for you. Get the new one.

Get new! 10% isn't worth losing sleep over. If it were 30% difference then maybe you should consider used.

I've been moving towards "new" as well by just comparing the pics between the new one and the used one. The new one is from a reputable store instead of from a person. It just feels safer overall. I will always worry that something is wrong that I don't know about with the used one!
Nonetheless, I will continue to watch the poll with interest. |

I would save the 4K and go used. If it's a minty piece anyway.

For that small difference on a $40,000 watch. I would treat myself to the new watch.

New for me, spending that amount of money... 10% isn't a big difference.
